Recruiting for a T20 Game

Probably not but if you'll have me I'm on board with one caveat. Access will have to be realitively easy whatever the form. If I have to jump through too many hoops to play I'll have to pass. How many is too many depends on the forum used and making my old Mac compliant to it. I already have yahoo and msn access so if that is where this will be happening then no problems.

I'm looking for something to do for the next little while so creating a character sounds about right, and no loss if somebody else fills the slot first or access proves a problem, can never have too many characters for the npc folio.

Off to do up a rover now since I don't know just which crew slots are spoken for. So I'll make mine a jack(or jill)-of-all-trades and he(or she) can hire in wherever.

Oh, one other thing, I don't have d20 Modern and no plans to buy it so I'll be pulling from just T20 sources. Feel free to educate me as needed.

Query: Are those basically the default homeworld feat/skill packets for us all or in addition to? If in addition to I guess the skills are rank1 just like Untrained homeworld skills. Will this add to the same skill if generated?

These reflect that you guys live in the 57th century, and are in addition to any homeworld/start skills, etc.

So you can still be from a backwater, but ST&T will end up sending you to Vacc and Grav School, for insurance reasons.

MSN will more than likely be the site choice for supporting files like maps and what have you. You need to tell me what a "hoop" is in this context, besides a mutated rabbit from Gamma World...

shhh, way hunting wascally muthated wabbits, hehehe

Basically Mac unfriendly software requirements. Some chat forums are a pain for example or don't support Mac at all. But if this is going to be a post forum (like yahoo) or email then I see no major hurdles.

Oh, btw, nice choice on the cinematic/storytelling choice of approach. I was in one for a while and it was great. Just hope the whole rules behind the screen doesn't overwhelm you

From running behind the scene game mastering, It can be a real help. No rules arguments, puases to parse the rules, breaks to look up minutia that may make or break a single roll, but has little effect on the whole of the game.

Abused or carried to far, leaves players feelling out of the loop, or even cheated, but even in a normal game, a certain amout is neccessary to keep the game flowing, and a truly great Game master does MUCH more of this, even in a face to face game than players realize.

Truly great GM's are always deciding if an unusual result allows them to change direction, or stops the flow, and adjusts accordingly.

As long as Tony never leaves me feeling singled out, (beyound what I have a suspicion I will be from his setup info,) I think it makes a MUCH smother and more enjoyable game. I get to make Jason who I want him to be, without constantly worring about maximizing skill points, or how to take advantage of the mechanics, or even if I am figuring something right, on the fly.

Just my thoughts, but I have been in a lot of face to face games, and the ones where the Game master does his thing behind his screen, and only tells us the results, without seeing all of the rols are much more exciting. they move faster, and flow better.

I know nothing about Tony as a game master, but the opening effort and his conversations withme rounding out my charactor really give me a great feeling.

Anyway

Is the four terms mandatory? I just noticed I only took three (8 years University, 4 years Career). Should I go ahead and take the fourth one?
Also, was curious about the new Advanced class you posted up. Do we need to take a 1st level in it, or do we start advancing in it after play starts?

Yeah, go ahead and do another term. When you guys start the game, you start at first level in the ST&T Advanced Class. Surgery Feat noted!

Question on Gear. What are the limitations on what the characters can purchase?
What's the max TL? What is the common TL for gear available? Any weapons restrictions? Is there a mass/size limit to what they can bring on board?

They are "off the rack" TL:14s... and they are NASA Orange with Gloss Black Helmets, Gloves/Boots. Very similar to the Jumpers on the cover of "Vilani and Vargr"

They have 10 hour Oxygen supplies, and have a built in data link for linking to the ships computer. Data is displayed on the Helmet Visor inside, via HUD. They are designed to be modified easily.

I got a question about the character. Did you take 1 term of Merchant, 1 term or Rogue, 1 term of Corsair, and 1 term of Traveller? I'm not clear on the level breakdown. Also, please drop corsair in favor of an additional term of Rogue or something. In this game, once you are a corsair, you are a corsair for Life.

According to the Handbook, you can multiclass into Rogue once you have the Connections (underworld) feat. The first three terms were all Merchant Prior History. Only the fourth was something else, and that was the Traveller Prior history. Dropping the Corsair levels (more an ethically challenged merchant exactly...) will pretty much require a redesign from 4th level up with some wild assed guesses at to the skill levels. Corsair and Rogue are very different.
Probably be easier to start from scratch.

According to the Players Handbook (still in playtest), A character with Merchant, Navy or Marine background may multiclass into the Corsair class at any time during their prior history.

Pehaps he was more a Privateer, with a very nice Letter of Marquee, rather than some uncouth Corsair... ;)

Pretty cool but um, I thought we were starting in the Hamid subsector you posted a link to? I've been doing my character* based on that, is this a change or

* Which should be typed up tonight or tomorrow. Naturally fate (in the guise of my dice) took my concept and twisted it in unpredictable ways, good ways I think, just not quite what I was imagining.

Still a roamer. Capable Engineer and passable Gunner. A fair Astrogator and knows which way to point the ship and what makes it go but Pilot might be too strong a term. And finally even knows how to keep the red stuff inside and when to pronounce, somebody call for a Medic? Just slot me in wherever and I'll even trade duties so things stay interesting.

So who's the Captain of this ship? "NOT IT!" That's the one job here I'm not qualified or interested in.

That'd probably be the way to call it, to prevent possible "character" clashes

You had to go and start playing with the new rules* Never mind the inks not even dry, the type isn't even set

* considered it myself, briefly

OK, never mind, I just had old charts loaded, I've done the Astrogation and reoriented myself now. No problem. Should probably delete those pre-Long Night charts and the old system names from my database but they might come in handy. I'll just label them antiquated.

In this game, it's different. the Corsairs in this Sector operate a lot differently, and guard their secrets closely (They go up against SolSec in some cases, who seek to bring them to heel by infiltration, etc. ) Normally "Mustering Out" of Corsairs means they hammer on the lid of the pine box... they are a rough lot. Retirees get whacked more often than not, ala "Dead Men Tell no Tales"... That sort of Whacked...

Don't forget, There's always Smuggling...

The Party* doesn't operate in support as the pirates of old or elsewhere. Connection to a Corsair group "Letters of Marque" style almost always ends up in a long prison term, at best, for those involved. For the Party, its all about Control, and pirates are way too chaotic in the Party's View... they often employ aliens!

I have a feeling that was his intent in using the Corsair class, but I could be wrong. It'd be a shame to redo, but I guess he might have known it was possible when using unpublished material. That was why I decided to pass. Besides I'm still finding enough questions looking in the basic T20 book
