UWP Changes

Report for Empty Quarter Sunbane

I took a slightly different approach here because there was such a variety of problems. Note that these are all Imperial systems. The rest of the sector was not checked.

First here are the systems in AOTI that are not in Sunbane:
0732 c-de-s g
0738 c-we-s g
Next, the systems that have the incorrect hydrosphere marker:
0334 c-we-g g Gudina
0435 a-we g
0637 c-de g Rasu
0834 b-we-n g
0836 d-we g
0936 d-we-n g
1233 b-we-n g Lazisar
1237 c-we g
1332 d-we g
1430 e-we g
1730 d-we g
1734 e-we g
1836 b-we g
2038 b-we
2129 b-we
Note that 1836 is also missing a GG indicator in Sunbane.

Next, the following systems have incorrect base indicators in Sunbane. The listed below is of AOTI:

0537 c-de-s g
1133 a-we-a
1631 b-we-n g
1738 a-we g
2039 d-we-s g
2536 e-we g
The following has the incorrect starport in Sunbane:

1934 d-de g
The last are systems that have an incorrect world type:

2431 c-as g
2434 a-de g

Josh, What does your Challenge collection look like? The reason I ask is that it would be good to get a complete listing of TNS entries with the UPPs.
My Challenge collection isn't as great. I was really interested in the mapping work done by the DGP folks and I figured that with little to no chance of a reprint I'd better grab 'em nowish.

However, conveniently enough, let me share:

http://www.calormen.com/rss/ct.xml
http://www.calormen.com/rss/mt.xml

These are morphed from HTML snippets of TNS archives (I can't recall where I grabbed them) into RSS feeds so I could read through them on an offline reader. They include UWPs but I can't vouch for the source. However, all of the Rebellion-era news is reprinted in Survival Margin, which I have, so I can spot-check any questions.

Annecdote: this was one of the first things I did after coming out of a 20-year Traveller hiatus. I'd completely missed MegaTraveller and TNE. I only barely knew about this thing called an assasination of some guy named Strephon and even less about some virus thing. So I caught up on momentous happenings in the OTU by reading through the news feeds over a few days. The descent into Hard Times was really impactful.

Ah, I think that is the root of the issue. I have Survival Margin from back in the day, and I want to say that there are some missing TNS entries here and there. Case in point, there is an entry from Infrapolis in 1118 on the XML feed (minus a UWP, oh well) , but I could not find the corresponding entry in SM. So, I am ultimately unsure if SM is incomplete or the sites have extra data or some combination of both.

And the flip side of this is that SM has a few non-Rebellion news bits peppered throughout as well.

Yeah, SM is one of my all time favorites. Not only did it document the slide into oblivion, it also gave insights into the minds of the faction leaders, which was a nice supplement to meeting Strephon in Arrival Vengeance.

My hiatus was only 10 years, so I just missed GURPS.

There are a large number of TNS feeds that did not show up in Survival Margin. Dave Nilsen picked the ones that summarized the situation and advanced the plot in the most relevant way, and also did a bit of redaction, so beware!

Jim, I'll work in your Empty Quarter changes today.

Sector Report for Lishun Sunbane

As my initial survey showed, Lishun has faithful Starport, GG and wet/dry world representation, but wildly different bases and allegianaces, especially at the Vargr border.

I had to eyeball the entire sector and fix problems as they came up. I've uploaded the results, and I believe Lishun is ready for regeneration.

More Strangeness with the Empty Quarter

Ok, this is bizarre. The older copy of EQ doesn't have 0732 or 0738, but the newer copy (the one with all the world names) does.

Suggestions?

Unless someone has a better suggestion, I'll use the "newer" copy, the one with the world names.

Huh, looks like it fixed problems with the earlier copy, with one difference to us: they considered Ice worlds to have Water present, which is perfectly reasonable, but we haven't been going that route. They also assumed that fluid oceans meant "water present", too.

0836 dry Ic * hmm, the plot thickens
0936 Ic Ic
1233 dry wet * was completely regen'ed, too

1430 Fl Fl * aha!
1730 Fl Fl
1734 Ic Ic
1836 dry Ic
2038 Ic Ic * I think...
2129 Fl Fl</pre>
GG removed from 1836.

Bases vary between my datasets, too:

</font><blockquote>code:</font><hr /><pre style="font-size:x-small; font-family: monospace;"> Old Newer AOTI
0537 S none S
1133 none none A
1631 none none N
1738 none none none ??
2039 none S S
2536 none none none ??</pre>
Starbases are similarly inconsistent. Newer set has D starport, older has E. D retained.

Likewise the systems at 2431 and 2434. Incorrect in the old set, correct in the newer. Retained.

Executive Summary: 10 sectors brought in-line with the AOTI baseline in 14 days. Actual speed, including Jim's help, is about 2 days per sector.

(Laryssa, those are good suggestions)

Yes - it appears that I used the "old" data (the one that your map is generated from). What a screwy sector. Let me know if you want to work out the non-Imperial worlds there.

GG removed from 1836.
No, that GG is *present* in AOTI, but not in Sunbane, so it needs to be there.

I will try to knock out Ley, Delphi & the small pieces of Glimmerdrift by the end of the weekend.

Old Expanses/Diaspora will take quite a bit longer due to the TNE publications (more data tp cross-reference).

You stud. Don't burn out.

I'll finish off Gushemege and figure out what to do with Core.

Report for Gushemege Sunbane

Gushemege is now aligned with AOTI. About half the Fl worlds were on AOTI wet worlds, while the other half were on AOTI dry worlds. I changed the Sunbane data so the Fl worlds are only on dry worlds. Funnily enough, all the Ic worlds are only on dry worlds, which is what we're aiming for.

Usdiki remains in its Rebellion-era location. It's reasonably important to the Rebellion and Survival Margin, and not important to CT.

*sigh*

The corrected Empty Quarter uses the old HIWG names, so it would appear that when Second Survey is published, my work for Stellar Reaches will be invalidated.

Oh, well, at least I'm creating what I hope is an interesting variant version of EQ, as an example of what a Referee can do to make a sector their own.

This will also most likely invalidate the 1248 UWPs as well, considering that all the non-published worlds (and thus non-canon at the time) were given new names since QLI couldn't get the permission of the original HIWG contributors, and in the case of Zarushagar, the UWPs were completely regenerated to match AotI, but now have totally different physical stats than what will likely be recorded in Marc's work for T5.

It's hard doing this kind of work. No matter what Marc does, he'll be invalidating someone's work, whether published or HIWG/fan-based.

At least my next sector to develop for the OTU won't suffer for this, as the Hinterworlds were published in their entirety in Challenge 39.

More later,
Flynn

MJD and Flynn pretty much own the four sectors of the Fourth Imperium for 1248. And even there, Flynn needs to check with MJD to keep things straight (Flynn: check your PMs).

At this point, I own the Domain of Deneb data for 1248. I am trying to help robject with those four sectors, and have already sent him full sector data for those sectors. I will be redoing that shortly (hopefully as a list of change items).

Fortunately, in the case of the Domain of Deneb, the physical stats are all already there in MTJ#3 and RSB. Whatever is done for the social stats is, at worst, just the trials and tribulations of the passage of time (we are, after all, talking about the passage of around two and a half centuries).

Daryen,

'Tis done.

-Flynn

BTW, guys, bear in mind that the Second Survey isn't coming out until next year, at the earliest, for T5. There is still hope that things can become integrated, especially as 1248 gets published in the near future. That's a year to make things jive, at least.
