UWP Changes

And, since I've thought it a few times but haven't said it yet... thank you.

Robject,

Check them anyways. Check both the Sunbane sectors and QLI's versions. See if QLI's result jive with your's. I'll bet they won't.

They won't match not because QLI somehow did them 'wrong'. They won't match because QLI did them differently. Your Team has it's own regeneration procedures and QLI has it's own. The two will not be the same, so the two will produce different results. Look at all the decisions made concerning fluid oceans for instance. QLI will not have made the same decisions you did.

Regenerate all the UWPs with a single procedure. Create one data set from one procedure. No exceptions, no 'it was done already', none of that. Make the data seamless. No one wants to have to remember ten years from now that, when faced with inconsistencies between Ilelish UWPs and Ley UWPs, the sectors in Second Survey were regenerated except for these four over here that had been done before.

No exceptions, please, no matter how good the QLI data may be. Regenerate all the UWPs in the same fashion.

Have fun,
Bill

robject,

Based on this thread, I have the following additional recommendations for changes to the Spinward Marches:

- Change the UWP of Pavanne (2905) to E210000-0.
- Change all xxx000-x worlds to have a TL of 0 and a population multiplier of 0.
- Remove the Amber Zone from Natoko (3209).
- Remove the Amber Zone from Colada (1022).
- Remove the Amber Zone from Tsarina (2236).
- Remove the Amber Zone from Moran (2924).
- Remove the base code from Zeycude (0101).
- Make sure Jesedipere (3001) is listed.

$#%^, let's regenerate the Spinward Marches, too. Why not?

Sod backwards compatability.

Avast, Mateys! Heave to and prepare to be boarded!

Who cares if Regina loses half its mass and 90% of its population?

I do.

Regina was one of the earliest worlds in the Spinward Marches that was settled from the Imperium. That argues that it's a pretty good world. It was the dominant world among a cluster of 17 worlds in 250. That argues rapid growth and development, again indicating a good world. It is still the capital of its duchy today, so it should have a decent population no matter what.

I know you were making a joke, but I'm trying to make a point here: A world is not just a set of random numbers, it is a product of its history.

Hans

Hans, I'm sorry if I alarmed you.

I couldn't find the "frustration" and "sarcasm" keys on my keyboard last night.

Some direction from Marc.

What I'd like to see in a perfect world.

Everything corresponds with AOTI.
Everything corresponds with canon.
Everything corresponds with apocrypha.
And we have a set of reference footnotes that tell us each world data that appears in canon and apocrypha.

Stellar distribution is tweaked to be more realistic without violating canon lists.

Some things are changed anyway. Like Vland has many more people.

Giving Amnesty to Individual Systems

I'm indicating amnesty extended to individual systems in two ways:

(1) I'm moving them all to the top of the system listings in the aoti-friendly .sec files.

(2) I'm adding a plus sign to the system name.

For example, Depot in Corridor is mentioned in Survival Margin, and so its UWP could have amnest y from being regenerated. If we decide it's worth preserving, we mark its name with a plus sign thus:

</font><blockquote>code:</font><hr /><pre style="font-size:x-small; font-family: monospace;">Depot+ 1511 A686354-F D Lo Ni 123 Im M4 V</pre>
My Perl script checks for this plus sign. The authoritative regeneration might do things differently, but these two methods make it clear to me what's going on.

EDIT It would also be nice to annotate where the UWP reference is. I'm going to create a separate data block in the sector file for this:

</font><blockquote>code:</font><hr /><pre style="font-size:x-small; font-family: monospace;">Ref 1511 SM
Ref 1205 SM</pre>
HP would be High Passage magazine, which I own absolutely 0 copies of.
</font>
The question's been answered, but to answer the next question:

I own copies of all of the relevant TDs (#12) and HPs (#2,3,4,5) featuring the Old Expanses. When I did a spot check of the published info vs. Sunbane data they matched for the published subsectors (A, C, J, H, O). The TD metadata (subsector names, xboat routes) was also (foolishly) consistent with the HP data - trade routes were recycled as xboat routes - the worst published xboat routes ever. (Check out this monstrosity: http://inexorabletash.members.winisp.net/maps/map.htm?x=43&y=-76&scale=64&options=887)

I rechecked all of the worlds where there was an AOTI inconsistency - Sunbane data exactly matches the HP data for these worlds. Interestingly, the highest density of the error worlds are in subsector L, which was never published - it accounts 10 of the 23 errors.

One side note: there's a world in HP#3 that's the location of the feature adventure. It's called "The Edge" and it should be in hex 2920. UWP stats are given in the adventure (X769000-0, class G star, only 1 planet in the system so no GG's, Red zone) and it's shown in the map. But it's left out of the subsector data listing, and doesn't feature in either TD #12 or AOTI. Ooops - way to create then lose a world!

Yeah, I meant to ask you about that - I saw it when I was looking at OE for something else and couldn't beleive it...

That IS interesting. THanks for the check!

UWP References

Can someone identify the sector and hex number of UWPs referenced by Survival Margin, please?

For example, the two worlds referenced in Survival Margin in Corridor are Depot (1511) and Durima (1205). So I identify them sort of like this:
