About Roger ...
The remains of DGP were languishing in my basement and the future of Traveller was uncertain, so I figured someday I would empty it all into the dumpster and that would be that.
Remember, this was before things like eBay and the internet.
Then this rabid "fan" shows up at my door and about wets his pants when he saw what was left in my basement. He offered me a tidy 4 digit sum for it all. I figured it was all dumpster fodder.
From there we discussed total transfer of rights to everything, drafted a contract, and made it happen over the next few weeks. I was ready to get out of the SF Roleplaying business, so I was happy to walk away from it all with some cash in my pocket.
Marc Miller, Roger, and I did have some conference calls about Roger picking up the ball and finishing development on some things. Roger is one of those people who can weave the talk and sound like he could make it happen. Sadly, it was all talk.
Roger, IMO, didn't really understand that the gaming business isn't about big bucks. It's more about a labor of love, and a lot of grunt work grinding out products. At the end of the day, you have to *produce something*.
Roger did walk away with most of the DGP inventory, such as it was. Before you get all excited, realize the leftover inventory was the stuff that didn't sell well, so you won't find any copies of the Alien books, Starship Operators Manual, or World Builder's Handbook among what Roger got.
Hope that explains what happened.
