Missions of State -- Does it suck or not?

Milieu 0 is very British, somehow. The dark underbelly of the empire is definately exposed.

TNE has a dark underbelly, too (at least the Reformation Coalition does), but you have to read it between the lines. For all the rhetoric, the RC is a wanna-be colonial power -- sending in the marines to change governments that won't do what it wants.

I think M0's the one with a tiny contribution from me in it...
Yup, you are listed as being a rumourmonger.

Also to note when discussing Missions of State, it does contain an adventure partially written by our very own MJD.

Maybe that was the appeal.

TNE's dark underbelly so far has been much less appealing. I recently got the Regency Sourcebook and have trouble staying awake through it. Too many bad jokes and painful artwork. I know this is heresy and will drive people beserk but almost all the artwork after the LBB was so painful that all I can think is how much better all these supplements would be without the artwork [with very few exceptions here and there]

PS,

some egregious examples:

MT Players handbook -- Wal-Mart versions of the Star Wars Imperial Sromtroopers attacking a starship manned by the band Flock of Seagulls.

MT Rebellion Sourcebook -- Some models from the International Male catalogue break the "don't ask, don't tell" policy and join the military.

Gunfights involving a dog dressed as a doorman from the Ritz Carlton and his pet human who strangely reminds me of my car mechanic.

I know that I'm in the minority here and sorry to all the aspiring artists who drew this stuff.

Here here! Let's hear it for no art where the art is distracting (T4 comes strongly to mind!). Hey, but don't be dissing the Paranoia Vulture Trooper-esque battle dress boys taking on the chicks with ARs.... (whereas anyone who has played Striker, AHL, or even basic MT will know that this is a pretty short fight and the chicks get whacked....).

When I was hearing someone above talk about sending in forces to change unpalitable governments, oddly, I didn't immediately think of the English... ;) (and so soften that bit of pointed humour, let me add I hope they head North early on as I find our current gov't quite unpalatable and suitable for replacement at their earliest convenience!)

I'm not sure I agree with you about the Vargr... but only because we had Admiral Arrgh (an 08 retired from the Engineering Branch of the Reserve Fleet). He was a tough old Dog and outlived most of the human players in a 14 real-month long game involving vast amounts of treachery, the rebellion, the Solomani and the far tip of Gateway/Glimmerdrift reaches.... so the Dog dressed as a doorman isn't far from my image of dear old Arrgh.

But I too happen to like the LBBs. And I'm a fan of line art for ships and vehicles... pencil drawings are infinitely preferable to the full colour eyesores in T4.

BTW - Hello to all. Been gone to long. Might be gone again for a while, but I miss the place. And a big Hi to Agent!

I realize I'm about to get kicked out of the "Old Fart Sci-Fi Club", but I really, really, really don't like the artwork of Chris Foss. As a matter of fact, it made buying T4 and excersize in sheer willpower. I actually took the book to the counter of my FLGS, and then walked it BACK TO THE RACK because the artwork bugged me so much. *shiver*

I love Foss' work myself (I have many of the TTA books that his work appeared in). I just didn't have a clue what the hell it was doing in Traveller :D

I liek Chris Foss' work as well, and have several of his art books. However, saying that I don't believe it is at all suitable for Traveller.

Now, if he'd actually been commissioned to draw some Traveller ships in the Traveller universe, then that would have been awesome
.

But he wasn't, and they just used random pictures instead :(

It's a pity, because his art style is right out of the 70s scifi genre.
