How was Knightfalll?

ACK!!

SOC-12
If I ever get the chance to get it, is it worth it?

What is it about?

How well is it done?

Most importantly, how fun is it?

I never got the chance to read it, but it was a fun read. Great Rebellion data for Marsillia (Sp?) sector, particularly some of the worlds there. Set a standard against which I measure Traveller adventures, as far as details.

I think the adventure helps you capture the feel of the Rebellion very well, and it introduces another alien race from WAAAYYY BACK in the past besides the traditional Ancients, if I recall correctly.

Well worth picking up,
Flynn

I'd definately second Flynn's recomendation, but it's another of those things that can go for silly money on ebay, $20-25 looks like the going rate at the moment, but it sometimes goes higher. If you can get it cheaper, grab it. Or you could wait for the MT reprint CD rom ;)
What is it about?
The adventures of a Free Trader crew caught up in the rebellion in the Massilia sector. They become prisoners of one of the factions and escape to become fugitives. Clues they gather during their adventures eventually lead to an "ancient" city with an interesting secret.
How well is it done?
Very well IMHO.
There are eight scenarios, each broken into several nuggets, plus several random scenarios, nuggets, rumours and the like. Full UWPs are given for the sector, and a sector map plus players' sub-map of the Kishan cluster are included. There are also a dozen worlds written up in some detail.
Highlights for me include the enhancements to the trade and commerce rules, and the details of a TL15 planetary assault (with the PCs as bystanders, frantically searching for cover).
Most importantly, how fun is it?
Lots

Hope this helps.

In my view Knightfall sits with The Traveller Adventure and Twilights Peak as one of the best Traveller adventures.

Given that Joe Fugate has been described as an amatuer who never gave up his day job, Knightfall is the sort of adventure that I would like to write. If played with an understanding of the Rebellion it is an epic campaign. It also shows how the nugget system worked to good effect. The last part is, of course, now ruined, but my player were hit by shock and awe when they encountered the race that died from boredom . . .

Ok those are some high compliments Elliot.

I heard that the Sky Raiders stuff from FASA was really, really good as well.

I remember the sadness I felt when TNE came out because my group had run a one-year (playing once a week) campaign where they were involved in covert ops for Margaret's faction when I adjusted her faction to take up some of Dulinor's reform positions in order to win more of the heart and mind campaign. They caused havoc in high population worlds for both sides tarnishing the image of Lucan's and Dulinor's faction in some key high pop worlds on the border of the conflicts.

I always wanted to get Knightfall but never had the opportunity to. K. Webb the saint of a man he is sent me the boxed set books for MT.

Right now, I am looking to play a CT mileu with MT rules right after the Fifth Frontier War.

I still play around with house rules mentioned in the CT forum and other places but I am using the rules I started with when we play.

I got into Trav late with the MT rules.

It blew me away. I had always ref'ed D&D before and the idea of a universal Task System and the pen/atten armor impacting damage instead of contributing as modifier for to-hit. Honestly, this all blew my mind. Before the idea of a universal system had really taken hold, I thought the MT rules could be extended for any modern rpg and with just a touch of work to any type of rpg game.

I know about the errata and I hated the randomness of the skill progression and rolling for that but still...

MT has a special place in my heart.

Comms Laddie: Captain, the Translator seems to be malfunctioning. What do you think that strange sophont actually meant to say?

Cap'n: Ah, me boyo. Ye're young yet. Takes an experienced linguist or yer average Free Trader Captain to puzzle out such a mystery. I think yon fellah meant he never had a chance to play it, but he did read it.
