Favorite Rebellion alternate ending?

ACK!!

SOC-12
Listen I played MT for awhile and none of us saw the Virus coming so to speak.

So we developed a campaign that kind of followed this sceneriao from the speculating pdf on downport.com :

Reunification under Margaret: Like the previous scenario, a group of factions gang up on
Lucan, knocking him out of the picture. Then the factions continue squabbling amongst
themselves. Vland and Dulinor carve up the territory controlled by the real Strephon.
Margaret then gets Daibei and Vland to attack Dulinor, with help from her own faction. With
Dulinor knocked out of the picture, Margaret makes a deal with Deneb, which allows the
two factions to carve up the Vilanis. By now Daibei is under heavy attack from the fast
advancing Solomanis, and is forced by Margaret to accept annexation, in return for military
aid. With the Frontier with the Solomanis temporarily stabilized, Margareth turns her
attention on Antares and Deneb. Bzrk of Antares is forced to accept reannexation by the
Julian Protectorate. Deneb retains independence only because the Solomanis continue to
make trouble on the rimward frontier.

This of course meant Margaret was more active than she seemed as oppossed to the detached figure offerring citizens stability in a sea of chaos.

The PCs were all agents of Margaret running around causing chaos for the other factions through a series of deep dark ops missions.

This made many of the assasination missions and thieving encounters in a doc like Patrons more palatable for this group of people.

The story was that a group of her close advisors were doing a little acting on their own to push her into a more activist stance.

Now the question is how did your campaigns resolve the Rebellion or did they?

I didn't really appreciate the MT metagame thing of the Rebellion. I had Dulinor betrayed by a well-placed mole, assassinated is really a better word. The real Strephon got his act together and that was that.

Resolve the Rebellion? My players were too busy running from the Solomani advance! ;)

Seroiusly, I'm coming to that point again in the current game, and I'm not sure how I'm gonna handle it. The GURPS failed-coup model or the LEW Wounded Colossus both seem interesting. Of course, there is the total homebrew solution. I've thought that the Duke of Daibei was an interesting character and would have made a good Emperor as he actually seemed to embody some of the values the Empire payed lip service to. Or even, for an odd twist, Brzrk - he'd have made a really different kind of choice for Emperor and *really* changed the perceived racial dynamics of the Empire.

IMTU, I've ended the rebellion in several different ways:

1) PC's assassinating Lucan, and puting Dulinor on the throne (essentially by kidnapping him and being quite unkind.)

2) Degeneration into long term stable fragments, loosly allied against the adjacent neighbors

3) Reconquest by the Ziru Sirkaa.

4) Rise of a 4th imperium after #2.

I actually don't mind the official ending, though playing out Hard Times can be fun. But if I were there again, it would be either Wounded Colossus or Death of Fools.

During my Hard Times campaign the Solomani, having re-armed during 1125-1128, began a much more subtle invasion. They brought food, medical supplies, spare parts etc to worlds that asked for help (and were willing to accept Solomani rule), or worlds that were in no position to refuse the help.
Meanwhile, the Aslan were becomong more aggresive in their territorial claims in Daibei sector. This eventually lead to a deal being struck between Duke Craig and the Solomani for Solomani help in stemming the tide of Aslan incursion. Daibei became a neutral state and the Solomani were able to advance further towards the Imperial Core. That's where it ended, unfortunately, not because of Virus but because the game fizzled out.

My idea was pretty similar - Hard Times - with the Solomani (aflush with Imperial citizens) voting for the pan sophontist faction and an alliance being made with Daibei. The new Solomani overrunning Margaret

In the mean time Lucan and Dulinor would lock to the death.

At the time I was unhappy with TNE as being too much of a deus ex when Hard Times was producing good ideas. In the end I grew to like the idea of TNE if not GDW's development of it.
