Ending the Rebellion or restarting it differently

I love the idea of Dulinor wanting to foster change through the masses. It has sort of a "Communist/Socialist" revolution feel to it. Though I'm still working out the difficulty of maintaining a strong centralized government over the vast distances of Imperial space. I was intrigued by the Virasa religion. After all, a good ol' fast-moving agressive wave of Faith moving along with Dulinor's social reforms would give me a dynamic I like.

Except that as written Virasa isn't the religious vehicle that would drive an agressive faction. I think only two changes to Virasa are really needed to give it that "missionary zeal". First, throw out the "Violent Death is repugnant" line. Make violence against non-believers in the cause of expanding the faith palatable. Next, allow Virasa to accept and encourage converts.

I don't really want to make Dulinor's faction a Theocracy, I'm wanting Virasa to act as a further tool used by Dulinor's faction to bring the massess into the fold. Sort of a "Preferred Religion" rather than a "State Religion".

I'm also considering keeping the "nonhumans can't be members of the faith" angle. It'd give a good potential dark side to the faction and cater to "Humaniti First" movements in the war.

Of course, Dulinor could be creating a new, more militant sect with just those attributes.

Hmmm... Is that an alliance with the Solomani I'm smelling here?

It wouldn't be an alliance, but there would be a certain amount of sympathy between the Virasan and certain extreme elements of the Solomani Party. Especially if this version of Virasa is not a new cult, but an established religion popular in the Ilelish Domain, and spread throughout Human space. This way, it's already a popular religion within the Solomani Sphere (but not as popular or widespread as Terran-originated religions).

Stei'awtliyrl,

Wasn't there also something in Virasa beliefs about having to die on Dlan? A non-violent death and dying on Dlan?

ISTR, Dulinor trying to engineer a change in the religion through that historian fellow they used to great effect in late MT and TNE. He was featured in a number of TNS items and later showed up as a remnant. It was revealed he'd been a bigwig in Dulinor's intel apparatus before quitting in disgust.

Anyway, Dulinor got the changes he wanted through his 57th Century version of the Council of Nicaea so there is no reason why you shouldn't get the changes you want too!

Have fun,
Bill

The question is why not an alliance? An historical "accord of friendship", the SolConfed get to keep their original Sphere and full independence, and in exchange they add their huge military forces to the attack on Dulinor's enemys.

Bill, Sadly, I only have three paragraphs from the Rebellion Sourcebook to go on, and they don't mention anything about dying on Dlani soil. My Traveller-fu is weak :(

2-4601, IMTU the Solomani are much more belligerant, and have a "Manifest Destiny" to dominate what was once the Rule of Man. It makes any alliance, especially one that encourages Solomani fleets to operate outside the Sphere, risky.

However, an Ilelish/Solomani alliance in SETU (Someone-Else's Traveller Universe) would be a really scary-powerful force. Lucan suddenly would have a real two-front war on his hands and he'd handle it with all of the grace and skill of Adolph Hitler following the invasion of Normandy. I'm certain Diabei would cut some sort of deal to prevent being steamrolled.
