I suppose I am a bit of a pragmatist. I love CT and always will; simple, clever; a universe of possibilities. But for now I tend to mix the depth of description from the GT books with the simplicity of CT and add a dash of home rules... viola, another travaller campaign is born.

To another comment made earlier about player complaints of 'non-cannon' material...

Mezon guns 'poof' Far Traders every time...
The GM defines the universe, so enjoy or make your own...

Another reason to love CT.. Charts and tables using random die rolls for everything from character creation to creating the entire universe. This is a major boon to those of us who play solo.

That's the way I feel about it. I started out with Classic Traveller and STARGUARD which
at the time were the only Sci-fi RPG and ground based games out there of any merit. The two systems more or less complemented each other as well and the minis ( a major selling point)
could be used in ether game.

Have long since found other systems but Classic Traveller will always be were it started.

BTW. CT, for me, was Books 1-7 + Striker. We-no-need-no-stinkin-robots. Nothing was ever allowed in my games or my friends games that didn't have personality. [/QB]
White Dwarf once ran an article back in the early 80s that was a chargen system for intelligent 'ALIEN-esque' androids. Far better than robots. Anyone any idea if that article is alive and well on the web??

BTW - Regarding robots, the Vanajen Research Station adventure that included robots for the first time included all the robots I would need, and I could extrpolate from there. Just as I use Andy Slack's wonderful vehicle vs vehicle White Dwarf articcle in my games, I also refer to Mission on Mithril.Bright Face for its basic rules for attacking ATVs. You can just extrapolate from there. Beautiful.

Hey, all. I'm new to this forum and coming into the conversation a little late, so please bear with me...

I think Classic Traveller is great because it's so darn wide open. RPGs today are expected to lavish tons of setting detail upon novice readers, and I don't think that's always the way to go. I look at a game like Blue Planet, and the setting is so overdeveloped already that I don't want to play it, much less GM it. I can do the heavy lifting myself, thank you very much. Which is why I love the bare bones setting of Classic Traveller. Even if you read all of the Library Data and every Traveller's Journal, you're still left with a fairly sketchy view of the game universe, which allows players and GMs plenty of latitutde to do whatever they want within the framwork of the game.

I dig the character generation process. It's like a little game unto itself, and if you pay attention to the wheres and whens of your character's career progression, you can make up a pretty compelling back story for yourself with little effort. After all, why *did* your commando catch three garrison duties in a row after leading a raid that won him a Starburst for Extreme Heroism...?

Ship building is complicated, but in a fun sort of way. I get a kick out of crunching the numbers and making a ship that works. For somebody as bad at math as I am, finishing a decent ship design is its own reward.

I also am thrilled that the LBBs are being reprinted in big collector's omnibus editions. Don't get me wrong, I *love* my original LBBs, but for playing and easy transport, these new editions are just great. And, I am having a really easy time picking up old Classic Traveller material that I missed the first time.

Oh, yeah. One more thing to love about this game, and I can not stress it enough...

As was the previous responder, getting in a little late on this discussion. But I think a lot of my sentiments have been stated by previous responders. Love ct traveller. Just has that nostalgic feel, probably cause it was my first rpg that i refereed. I vary in feeling about the rules, overall I enjoy them the way they are, but at times enjoy bighting bits from other versions and game systems for that matter. I enjoy having the broad expanse of the Imperium and its neighbors to set up just about any kind of adventure. :cool:

you know jimmy boy , all us merchants can load another reel of 2-inch tape , sit in a room the size of a football field surrounded by digital bleeps and flahing red l.e.d.'s and use our COMPUTORS to simulate proximity . i've heard that sometime in 1113 , tech level 15 worlds discovered the " interweb" . we can even play rpgs on it . not as good as a trekkie transporter , i know .
