What is Traveller all about? thread on rpg.net

Some flame I caught on the first page... Heh, heh, heh...

That was me. No idea who the other guy is, but I dont take comments like "why TNE was the Holy Grail and why all the old grognards who roam the CotI boards should be given the boot" lying down.

Considering that Jame's post is about 12 hours before your post on page 9 over at rpg.net I'm guessing he was referring to this thread being on page one.

Not that I had any intention of starting a flame war by linking to a good thread (for rpg.net). If this thread turns into one I'm going to have it locked down.

Casey

Tobias, Casey, I was referring to a remark about one of T20's illustrious authors (and I mean the core book itself). I won't repeat it, thank you very much.

It is part of Schiller's "Song of the Bell".

"To rouse the lion, is dang'rous error,
And ruinous is the tiger's bite,
Yet is most terrible the terror
Of man in his deluded state."
is one translation I found.

A strictly literal tranlsation as well as I could:
"It is dangerous to awaken the lion.
Ruinous is the tiger's tooth.
But the most terrible of terrors
is Man(1) in his insanity(2)"

(1)Man in the sense of "mankind". The grammatical gender in German is male, but this pertains to the human species rather than to males.
(2)the word "Wahn" often means more a temporarily blocked mind, as when in a frenzy. "Deluded state" was probably quite a good word choice.

Regards,

Tobias

Well, just waded through it. Its up to 19 pages now.

I missed the first page flame, but there's plenty of flaming by the time you hit around pages 12-16.
