*new comer alert*
I just found out about this forum. I'm a lurker, and sometimes contributor to the 2300ad mailing lists.
I heard that colin is writing the d20 2300ad remake, 2320 I guess... and I just wanted to share that I'm completly excited about the prospect and can't wait for the announcment, (and any other jucy details.)
I guess to stay on thread...
2300ad to me is a universe rich with possiblity and chance. it reflects a well done portrayal of a powerful civilization that thinks its on top of the world, and then suddenly put in its place by seeing that another species is out there, and just as powerful.
finding them selves with wealth and riches aplenty, but still struggling with the realities of forming new lives and chances on far flung worlds.
continuing to struggle with the inate ability of humans to desire more for them selves, at the expense of others.
The game succeds at placing the universe at the finger tips of man, but keeping so much of it deep in mystery by not giving them godly technologies and unbeatable abilities.
The conceptualization and realization of the universe, by the game developers was so well thought out that forgetting the changes in the world we know as fact (post 1985, fall of the berlin wall, a lack of a nuke-WW3, and all that).
You are given a world, that has a realistic and beliveable history behind it.
There are issues and inconsistancies with in the game that are present in many RPG's, but with some descretion, and good thinking, the average Referee is able to write up a belivable story and background to fill these holes, and twist them slightly so they make sense. (inconsistancies in exactly how many ships each fleet has for instance, and the realities of founding a colony world... etc...)
Out of all the Sci-Fi RPG's I've given a shot, 2300ad stands out heads and shoulders above the rest as something I've had the most fun with.
My one wish... is that its easier to find a decent stutter warp capable ship that can be easily manned by 4 to 5 people. (the average size of any rpg session I have)
I wish you the best of luck in your writing, and I'm excited to see what comes of it.
