IMTU IRIS is an "Un-official" branch of the INICID
(Imperial Naval Intlligence, Counter Intelligence Department)

Counter Spooks, if you will.
Most are members (honor and pattent) of the Nobility.

The Imperial Regency of Intelligence and Security.

Created by Chuck Gannon in Challenge #33 (with chargen rules in #34). The original article specifically says it is a MegaTraveller variant, thus allowing Dave's sleight-of-hand decanonisation later on. Many of us (Bill Cameron, Doug Berry, and myself included) are very impressed by the way he did it, with Survival Margin's Strephon commenting "Who are these IRIS people? You'd think that I might have heard of them once or twice." (NILSEN, David, Survival Margin, GDW, USA, 1993, p 28).

If I ever get to 1121 IMTU, they are going to be a branch of the Imperial Ministry of Justice (IMoJ) who set themselves up as this "once-secret group of Imperial protectors" trying to stem the tide of anarchy, but wound up becoming almost as bad as all the other factional leaders anyway.

As to the JP/Menderez groups try:
"Julian Protectorate", Challenge #49 (The Swimsuit Issue)
"Coreward Conspiracy", Challenge #59 (The Special Mysteries issue)
"Wolf in Sheep's Clothing", Challenge #67 (Trasilon #1)
"Lightning Never Strikes Twice", Challenge #68 (Trasilon #2)
"Passing of the Flame", Challenge #69 (Trasilon #3)

Did canon OTU ever mention other Imperial "spy agencies" other than IRIS?

I'd like to know which sources they are mentioned in as well.

Whole big write-up in the Rebellion Sourcebook. Marc once planned a Black Ops sourcebook for MT, maybe, he has a outline/manuscript kicking around, GSI is in MT#4, Ministry of Justice Agents are in High Passage#1, Books 4-7/Merchant Prince had Advanced Chargen which included Intelligence Division, a JTAS article included the Vememe (if you don't think of the Imperial MegaCorps as part of the lifeblood of the Imperium...boy, have you been fooled) and somewhere I recall a nice write-up on INI (Imperial Navy Intelligence Branch) and lastly Signal GK Adventure goes into some of the divisions within the Army.
