The Rebellion Redux

Battlestar Galactica ehh?
Yeah, the new one.

The main character in “der untergang” was why I was going for the Lucanites by the way. A raving madman’s last decision and the PC’s are left to carry it through.
Interesting. Haven't seen the movie, though I have heard nothing but good things about it. It also turns Lucan into an anti-hero to a large degree, which I vehemently disagree with.

IMO, the exodus is the interesting part, what faction it is is only chrome. The PC’s could command one of the forward scouts perhaps.
Yeah, if the point is to play the exodus. My goal here is to create a backstory for a (somewhat) stable pocket empire setting, so I am not planning to focus on that. That isn't to say that there will not be stories/adventures that spring from that exodus backstory, though.

Or, maybe they settled out of reach of their old enemies and suddenly they realise that they are only 20 parsec away from a very disgruntled new enemy - the 2000 worlds perhaps? Nonetheless, time to move again…
Some old villans may pop up, perhaps, but this will be so far out of the OTU that the only original aliens I plan on using are Vargr and Aslan.

The T5 stuff lists a "Faraway Sector" as a potentially neat campaign setting which sounds similar to this.

I like Sigg's idea of reusing old cruisers and an experimental jumpgate. Maybe some big 'ol planetoids can also be outfitted with humongous jump drives, sort of like gargantuan Xboats?

Re the jumpgate. It could be possible that a colony effort is already underway there which rebels, trashes the gate, picks up and leaves from there.

I'll have to re-read the T5 stuff...

I really like the old cruiser/tender idea. (Thanks, Sigg!
) And I'm thinking either planetoids or a few huge balls with J-5 drives. Depends on how long it would take to build versus hollow out an asteroid...

(Is there anything in MT or even TNE about construction times?)

I have actually fallen in love with the idea of an ancient portal that Lucan has found and is jealously guarding. Big ol' battle ensues, destroying most of the escorts and the portal itself, but the majority of the colonists get away.

I have written two pages of high-level backstory so far and they are just now going through the portal.

Cool - is it post Virus, then? Or at least post-Rebellion?
Post-Rebellion, in an alternate universe where the Virus-lab was destroyed in a huge naval battle between Dulinor and Lucan in Omicron before the Virus was released, so no Virus.

I am still trying to decide whether to have Dulinor take the Irridium Throne and rule the crumbling sector-wide remnant of the Imperium (a little more than the Core Sector, with Illelish [sp?] rebelling against him and becoming a republic), or make his fleet rebel against him (afterall, fighting against the mad Lucan and his kamikazees isn't that good for morale, especially after massive losses at Omicron) and turn back to Illelish (sp?), leaving Lucan on the throne. In any case, these events won't affect the Unity of Gaia much, as the remnants of Lucan's/Dulinor's fleets would hardly be sufficient to defend their realms, let alone launch expeditions towards the war-torn Rim...

Nerfing the virus is good, i like it.

Having Dulinor resettle in Core while loosing Illelish ... hehe :D

(not loosing of course, he didn't want it, or so the historybooks will say)

If a "Faraway Sector" concept is used, the colonists cut off contact with Lucan anyhow, thereby mooting Virus from this setting.

If the Virus would be mooted by distance, then all of the Vanguard Reaches and Beyond Sectors would be Safes. Now, that presents an interesting milieu, those Pocket Empires on the edges of Chartered Space now have a chance to run into the Regency and gain anti-Virus technology and run over Chartered Space like the barbarians of old. However, I don't think this is MJD or Dave's vision of TNE but I kinda like it. Would or maybe could it be made compactible with their vision(s)?
