The Rebellion Redux

For the colonization area, I'm thinking about an extreme rimward system, beyond the Solomani Sphere, even beyond any cannon-mapped area (about one and half to two sectors to the rimward from the Confederacy border). The system would have been surveyed once or twice by the Confederacy; the original (now dead
file_23.gif
) colony would have been a private attempt by one of the SolParty factions to flee unfavorable political conditions (read: being prosecuted) on a world where it was in minority. It was too far to be even under nominal SolConfed authority.

I'll generate the system using CT LBB6 once I'll have time.

Going in the totally opposite direction, the more I think of it, the more I think these ideas would suit a settlement/early centuries of the Sword Worlds campaign as well. I mean, there's a long journey past the reaches of a failed Imperium, empty territory that isn't quite as empty as the colonists want, and the usual blend of Spinward Marches aliens. You would have to tone down the TL level and but you could build towards eventual contact with the Third Imperium or the Vilani. But this would largely be for those of us without enough time to generate a ton of new UWP data...

Yeah, I was thinking along the lines of a few of the worlds that they scout out after having been settled for a while having some kinds of alien ruins. No ancients, though. Or Primordials.

So, what alien ruins did you have in mind? Shadows-style pyramids (with active robotics this time)? A relic "recorded memories" (psionic or not) of a dead race ala Martian Gothic/Ghosts of Mars? I am looking for something that could serve as a "dark secret", taking time to unearth, and responsible for the disappearance of the original colony.

How about a lost colony from the Rule of Man era that died out long ago - or at least that's how it appears at first.

The truth slowly dawns that there's something odd about a lot of the alien animals, and the relic buildings contain an awful lot of strange computer systems...

Re-read Bradbury's Martian Chronicles. There should be some really good ideas in there - and they're not "current" enough to immediately register with folks....

Not sure yet - I have been so stuck in work and home issues, all I have been able to do is get my software ready to generate the sectors these folks are going to settle. I am at that part right now, so once I gen the planetary data, I will be able to pick up the draft and continue on.

Regarding the ruins, I'm not sure. Pyramids seem so BTDT. THere will be very little evidence of any Ancients, so I am gonna have to make something up. I like the idea of the Martian Chronicles. It has been quite a while, but I remember some pretty interesting imagery from that.

Maybe crop circles or something.

Do you intend to provide several star-systems (a Jump-6 hexagon, mayhap?) with a moderate amount of details or one system with intensive details? I'm leaning towards the latter.
