T 5 Has arrived!!!!

On a general note, I'm slowly delving into T5, and really, it's an astounding document. Anyone who hears "Beta" (or Alpha, or whatever), and thinks "slapdash draft file" should reconsider. It's anything but that.

Actually, that's the impression I got from my copy of T5. I am very, very glad to learn it's a beta, because it looks like one - there are typos and errors and textual infelicities galore. But...

...what a beta. The scope is tremendous. The basic task system gives you the wheel, lever and inclined plane, but by halfway through the text we're dealing with high-bypass turbofans quickly and elegantly.

I'm redesigning some of my old High Guard starships with the T5 system. I'll post them here in the private forum, if that's permissible.

Oh please do...

What more ships to work with, hell yeah, post them in the Private Forum. 'Sides it will make me and Rob look less like the only starship wonks.

Gruffty... I really do hope you get it Christmas Eve.

But the files are available in the development forum -- you aren't missing out... well, sort of... but...

I'm starting to feel bad for the Hiver....but then I start to wonder why I'm feeling that way - am I being manipulated? :oo:

Huzzah!

My copy of T5 arrived here, in Sweden, on the 23rd. :)

Now, if only my wife would let me open the darned thing. Well, okay... yes, I admit, it was ordered as a Christmas present. But that was LAST Christmas. :p

Actually, having made it to the Personal Combat chapter by now, I have to take back my enthusiasm.

It's not that the Personal Combat chapter needs to be rewritten. It actually needs to be written in the first place. So far it's just incomprehensible tables with incomprehensibly terse annotations.

I'm waiting for reports as to whether there is a game in there... ;)

If there is enough useful stuff to mesh with CT, MT or MGT, that would be good too... :)

Is there any setting material in a specific timeline?
Has the timeline changed, advanced, etc or is it non-specific?

I'd be happy to entertain Gruffty with a rendition of the Hiver Technical Academy Fight Song if it would distract him from the agonizing wait

I now have my T5 CDROM.

I also know that I need to send an extremely British leter of complaint to Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs, demanding to know why they whacked an import tax on it when the CD's value was under the import tax threshold.

I shall then assume the standard British posture of blindly waiting for a reply that will never, ever come.................................. :oo: :D

Customs charges!!??

thats blinkin well out of order
it is well under the limit

hope you get the cash back
Yup. Anything imported from outside the EU, into the EU, with a value of £ 18 or more gets an import tax whacked on it, plus a Royal Mail International Handling Fee - I ended up having to pay £ 11.47 to get my CDROM.

However, that's *if* the HMR&C catch your incoming packet: I have recently had stuff arrive from various parts of the world that have been worth more than £ 18, yet haven't been caught by HMR&C to have the import tax applied.

So I s'pose I shouldn't grumble.

But I'm a Brit so I will...... ;)

I gave Marc your analysis of this issue, he's noted the problem for future FFE shipments to the UK.

And he apologizes -- if this has happened before, you're the first to have it brought to his attention.
