I'll just blast out a list of some features and traits, as these guys are an alternate take on something I wrote for a commercial project and I don't want to step on IP:

• bestial race in the process of uplifting itself through drugs and surgery/prosthetic
  
• mating stitch, synesthesia and pain-enhancing drugs
  
• Atavist subculture
  
• hospital ships that offer 'cheap, advanced healthcare'. Just sign this waiver...
  
• surgery performed on the spot on losers of fights
  
• not canids, but reminded human first contact of dogs
  
• big heads with biomech jaws, prehensile tongues/cybersnakes
  
• contorted bodies
  
• flesh pockets and other mods/implants
