Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.
No Though some buildings I've entered had such an air-pressure differential that there was a whoosh. Now that I imagine that mulitplied by the tight form fit factor of this door I'm not sure it's a good idea everywhere.
And of course little kids (and me) would be messing with this doors sensors for the fun
It's cute, but I think it would get irritating fast. It's slow to react, you're gonna end up getting clothing or bags caught on it, and if a sensor fails or a bit gets jammed (as happens in the demo) you've got problems.
It is slow to react at late TL-7 but what if . . .
At TL12 the door can recognize individuals and their personal effects with millions of high resolution sensors. A “block” door 2m thick door made of hundreds of millions of airtight slats allow only the authorized person to travel through the door. A person moving through the door appears to walk through the apparently solid mass and prevents unauthorized individuals from tailgating through security. It could also make a very effective one-man airlock.
Perhaps at TL 10 the scanners are placed on each side of the door.
They then act like bifocal eyes which read the persons dimensions, computes which panels need to be activaded and moved, and judge your speed so that you can continue to walk without changing your pace as you enter the building and the computer operates everything.
Interesting idea, Kurega. The only issue with it is the depth required - would be good for a high security entrance, though. Hey, it could also trap unwanted guests by not opening anymore slats!
(I can't see the demo, as it's only in Real format, evidently. )
