MT questions

I found out a friend of a friend is an old time Traveller player, so I managed to borrow the megatraveller players book from him. Time to look on ebay as well to see if I can find an actual copy for myself.

This is from a brief read through, and with what I am familiar with (CT) so far, and without having access to the referee book (he said he had it, but couldnt find it):

Character creation and skills, I really like. This will propably get used for CT.

Task system, I like, but I also like the UGM proposed on these boards.

Combat seems okay, a little more tangible. I'll think about this.

Experience. Well, its nice to have an actual system, very slow but thats allright. Im not sure if I understand a couple of things though.

A: Observing skills is cool, but is there a way to avoid players stacking tons of level 0 skills observed "just in case" ? How do you guys handle this in play ?

B: Am I right to assume that you get one AT per session, period ?

C: Some of the experience rules mention "Determination" as the governing skill, but I cant find this. Could someone give an example of the training or experience rolls "in action" ?

Also, what is in the ref book, in case the fortunes of ebay end up with only one of the books available ?

Cheers and thanks in advance!

Far Future Enterprises (link at the bottom of this board) has everything MT available on one CD as PDF files for $35. If you prefer books, then try E-bay, but if books are unavailable, then the CD makes a good reference. I've seem posts that some people take their PDF files to a printer to have them printed and bound.

Just some ideas.

You may, however, want to wait for the eventual update of the MT CD-ROM. There seem to be a number of problems with scan quality on the first issue.

Hi weasel !

On A:
The observed skill is only usable for the next skill roll or at least only temporary .... duration is up to the ref ...

On B:
Two ATs per in-game year, per skill

On C:
Det is (int+end)/5 and is as such used e.g. for observing skills:
To observe a skill:
Difficult, Determination

Or as a typical in game situation, chaos is around the character and he tries to do something complicate. Here I often let him "stay determinded" prior to the acutal skill roll....

regards,

TE
