Massilia / Knightfall

I don't know of any other canonical references to Keum subsector, but then I wouldn't have caught that TNS entry either so you're already a step ahead of me (note to self: add this to file). The adventure in Challenge #47 ("Knights of the Blue Feather") is set in Massilia but I don't have that issue so I don't know if it has any additional canon about Keum subsector or not.
I have it, but not here... most of my Traveller stuff is in another country (darn). But, IIRC, that adventure was set in the trailing part of the sector, close to Delphi, while Keum is the spinward border. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.

I'd love to see your manuscript for this book. Of course I'd love even more to write this book, but since that's showing no signs of actually happening I'll transfer my enthusiasm to your efforts. One question though: am I correct to assume this "Travellers' Guide" would be a GT submission? While there's more than enough in this subsector to make it interesting even in the GTU I can't help feeling it'll only have a tiny fraction of its adventure potential without the Rebellion.
Well, I was not thinking of a book but a booklet in the 16-page range, and I was not thinking of any submission anywhere <shrug>. The reason is that it would make use of the Library Data from Knightfall, so there would be copyright issues (oh, and Chigan Taal in the subsector is a Geonee world, as Rigaal in Shiwonee subsector---Geonee name ending(?), so more issues). Thing is, I ran a campaign in this subsector once, then lost my notes, am toying with an adventure set there (male-chauvinist Geonee traders are very active in Massilia. The Hi-pop, Hi-tech Rebin empire is radically matriarchal. Enter the players as middlemen), and so the booklet.

As for the setting, it would be "dual". 1110-15 with a section on what happened during the rebellion.

Hey, many thanks! Hmmm. Keum has an Exotic atmosphere and Hi pop. I actually have it as a homeworld for an (as yet wildly underdeveloped) minor alien race (the Keumi). My copy of 101 vehicles (the DGP one, right?) is not with me... is there anything at all on Keum there, or just a "built on Keum" sentence? Is there anything in the design reflecting that Keum has an oxygen-free atmosphere?

There is another reference to Keum subsector in "canon", IIRC: the portal to the fabled primordial city in Knightfall was in Jonen, an agricultural world in the subsector with gov 6 (colony). However, I think KF did not clarify much on the world, not even who its owner was.

Carlos- the vehicle IS a covered/ pressurized model. Keum is Hi Pop and In. IIRC., Surely a manufacturing giant of the subsector. Yes the DGP book.

This is the area I am developing:

Keum Subsector and Surroundings

It includes a large chunk of Vaait and Ten Suns subsectors, plus a couple of worlds from Shiwonee and Kerr subsectors, and even some worlds from Zarushagaar sector. Big enough as a playing ground, small enough to actually complete the project. Or so I hope.

In the map you can see the matriarchal Rebin Empire from Knightfall/TD11, and the set of "Keumi" worlds, Keumi being the alien race of nitrogen-breathers whose homeworld is Keum. Keum is actually the Sector capital...

Sweet!!!!!, this is Rebellion era time line MT? or what?(forgive me its late, and I just got in, Carlos)!
(ANd nitrogen breathers!!!Hmmm, I suspect Contact page topic perusal ASAP!) ;)

Thanks for your interest. I am writing Library Data entries as per 1112-1115, which would be the available data to players either in the Rebellion or in the alternate GT timeline. I plan a two-three page writeup on Rebellion events in the area. So far, I think there are three important canon references for that.

1) If you look at the map, this piece of news is quite interesting (from Challenge):

Anaxias/Delphi Date: 243-1118
Fleets loyal to Lucan carried their war directly to Margaret's strong-hold of worlds, spearheading on a frontage three parsecs across into the area of Aarze and Keum in Massilia sector.
The 117th Fleet has done well to hold its own against the invaders, managing to blunt their assault and turn some enemy squadrons back toward their bases.
Further penetration from Lucan's Imperium is unlikely, as reservist fleets have now come to bear. Nonetheless, the fighting is expected to continue in the region for many months to come.
All worlds in the area are listed as Lucan worlds in Knightfall (circa 1120), but Margaret's worlds are just trailing of the map.

2) If you then consider this other piece of news, you see that the region lives through rather interesting times right before that:

Kaggushus/Massilia (0402 A442AA7-G) Date: 137-1119
Obviously committing the last of his reserve fleets, Dulinor pushed out of Zarushagar sector through Massilia, temporarily cutting the Imperium in half.
Elements of Dulinor's 9th, 41st, and 278th fleets, among others, have cut a swath of systems 30 parsecs long and five parsecs deep, virtually bridging the gap between Dulinor's worlds and those of Margaret.
The Admiralty issued a statement calling the attack a "desperate attempt to open a new front, diverting our resources from our drive toward Dlan."
The statement also announced that the incursion would be routed out within a few months, but until that time the area is to be considered too dangerous for travel.
3) The Uson piece of news reported above in this topic is dated 1121. At that time, the area will only nominally be loyal to Lucan, as there are no major fleets left to ensure real loyalties. And I am guessing the meeting between Hortalez and the Vilani corp takes place here because, in practice, it is a somehow neutral area, Keum is the sector capital, but since it has an exotic atmosphere Sector Corporate HQs are located in nearby, hospitable Uson.

Unless I am told to stop, I'll post stuff here as I go.

I posted something on the Keumi on the Contact! board. Some additional Library Data entries for the Keum area follow here (to be added to the TD11/Knightfall ones). Comments would be extremely welcome.

Aarze (0918 Vaait/Massilia B547AEJ-F): The 23,000 million inhabitants of this world live under an extremely oppressive religious autocracy. The continents of this world, whose atmosphere is tainted by industrial pollutants, are covered by an almost continuous city, and expansion is continuing into the oceans (which are overexploited for food production). The local religion, which is simply called “the Faith” in Aarze, prohibits all expressions of individuality (which include art and family ties) and makes extensive use of mild drugs to ensure happiness---and compliance with authorities. A large computer system keeps individual monitoring on each individual and decides on the exact drug doses to be administered through his or her food rations, or at the regular medical checks. The maximal age of survival is fixed at 60 years, and the corpses are immediately used as a source of organic compounds for the ocean food factories.
Visitors are welcome in Aarze, but the authorities politely discourage any visit beyond the startown.

Masawa (0318 Keum/Massilia A895523-E): This world exports agroproducts to the rest of the sector, specially the heavily populated industrial worlds of the Rebin Empire and Enid. Its atmosphere has a slight taint of carbon dioxide, which does not impair the large production figures of the huge automated farms which cover its surface. In spite of its economic importance, the world only has 700,000 inhabitants, who enjoy the benefits of a ”technodemocracy”. Every important decision is taken after an instant referendum held through the planetary communications network, which reaches every citizen irrespectively of his location. The system is inspired in Shimshan (1019 Vaait), were a much more sophisticated computer network has to take care of a much larger population. Masawa is trying to import ostu from Viiman (0321 Ten Suns/Massilia) to supplement the already existing herds tended by swarms of robots.

Shimshan (1019 Vaait/Massilia A110720-G): The 80 millions inhabitants of this high-tech planet enjoy a “technodemocracy”, with a huge computer and communications network (actually a planetary AI, according to some experts) allowing every single citizen to vote directly on relevant government issues, irrespective of location. Shimhan natives are rather militant with respect to their system, which they consider perfect, and have actively tried to export it to other worlds (the main success being Masawa, 0318 Keum/Massilia). The Shimshan government has repeatedly offered help to the religious autocrats at overpopulated, neighboring Aarze to turn their controlling computer network into a supporting computer for a technodemocracy. All these offers have been politely rejected up to now.
