DGP and all that

Well, being as much a Traveller reader as a GM (maybe more), that level of detail made those races really come to life in my eyes. Even if not using every nuance, it still helps flesh out what makes them special without stereotyping them. I feel that more detail is always preferrable to mere fluff, or bare bones descriptions (to go to both extremes). The information in DGPs alien books was so helpful and valuable because it was so detailed.

As for the Starship Operator's Manual, again, there I felt like I was reading a text book.
Try reading the owners manual to your car, that`s a textbook... ;)
Again, it had all kinds of stuff that made life aboard a starship that much more realistic. To know how and why stuff works allowed for better descritions, less handwaving on the side of the GM and a perfect backdrop for shipboard adventures. You`ll never use it all, but your players will feel the difference.

Points well taken

For me, it was the consistant high quality that they gave to their mags. There was always a good adventure in every single one plus an ongoing story arc, for those who didn't play but enjoyed reading.

The articles were usually tied into the gaps in Traveller and helped bring different Milieus alive (a particular favorite was Rebel Reporter...although, I don't think they ever got around to doing Dulinor).

Plus, after TD#10 the artwork improved substantially and they started to employ more Blair Reynolds haunting images.

But my favorite book of theirs had to Cogs & Dogs, simply because the Vilani were just a name before that and they brought them from a historical footnote to a fully realized faction.

DGP "Published Materials" is actually quite extensive:

Grand Survey, Crand Census, both CT spawned also World Builder's handbook (MT).
101 Robots (CT/MT)
21 issues of Traveller's Digest, an exquisitely wonderful thing, starts for CT, then becomes for MT when MT was released. Loads of extra materials for both systems. Supported 2300 for a while, too.
2 issues of MTJ; DGP owned the other two.
Starship Operator's Manual (MT)
101 Vehicles. (MT)
MT Ref's Kit . This s a GM screen from HELL! actually, it's quite nice, but just way more info than really needed.
4 alien races in two volumes: Solomani and Aslan (aka Rats and Cats), and Vilani and Vargr (aka cogs and dogs).
The Flaming Eye: a full sized traveller campaign, soemwhat shorter than TTA, but wiht similar attention to details.

So not counting the vaporware, it really is worth about mid 4 figures IF one has reprint permission from MWM.

Of course, those people whom DGP owed money could class action for their owed debts, then replevin upon the DGP material rights in lieu of cash... after all, Rodger has been actively dodging contact.

Is there a limitiation period in US law for launching such an action - In English law they would be time barred by now (depending on the contract and whether DGP were liable at date of publication or date of acceptance)?

Elliot; My guess, and it's only a guess, is that whoever owns DGPs material probably doesn't have to worry about creditors at this point. I'm not up on my statute of limitations, but I seem to recall that in cases where no criminal activity was involved the plaintiffs only have a narrow window (a few years? ) in which to file a complaint. Even so I'm sure DGP went through propper channels when they closed their doors.

Ah, "The Flaming Eye." I wish I hadn't sold that book.

Key things in the US tend to be time to file charges/suit, rather than time to complete litigation IF THE DEFENDANT/RESPONDANT HIDES &/OR FLEES.

A couple of multi-decade old frauds are still open becuase the indictment was issued, but the defendant is in a foreign hideaway...

But, yeah, Rodger is probably free and clear by now...
