Basic Character Generation in MT

The text in the chapter actually (and correctly) lists it as a cascade, not an includes. The skill list is wrong.

Making Rifleman into Combat Rifleman for army and marines makes sense, likewise with the weapon group skill on mustering out.
Thats a house rule, but not uncommon....

After banging through MT for a bit, now, I have a few bits to contribute/ask.

I am mod-ing Cbt Rifleman to include Rifleman. If you get Rifleman-3 and you also get Combat Rifleman-1, you would treat it as Rifleman-4 and a -1 in all the things covered under Cbt Rifleman, but not under Rifleman.

MT specifically says any weapon. I prefer the CT rule of a weapon in which you already have skill.

Is there errata for the alien books? I have found a few items in Aslan chargen that appears to be a problem. (Like Blade Combat in one of the skill lists, the mention of Adepts in one place, but nowhere else, etc.)

That's pretty much how I do it, Fritz.

I do allow military (Army, Navy, Marine, Scout, Flyer, Sailor) characters who have Combat Rifleman 1+ to take levels in Combat Rifleman when they receive Gun Combat.

I considered that, Aramis, but I know the "Combat Rifleman" badge is so tough to get IRL, that I honor that by keeping Combat Rifleman minimal. (I know they're not the same. I'm just making the connection for my own purposes.)

I think you draw the wrong connection there...

Especially given how I've seen them on people who are NOT infantry branch lately. I've seen some canon-cockers, Combat Engineers, and MP's wearing them; I've seen almost no second termers currently without it. It really does seem like it isn't the coveted award it once was...
