Basic Character Generation in MT

OK. I am just now going over MT chargen, and I have a simple (but, possibly ignorant) question: WTH is Inborn?! It mentions JoT and a couple of others, but the text doesn't really give you any indication of why those specific skills would be mentioned. Also, since it is supposed to be something the PC can do naturally, would it assume a skill level of 1 (or 0) in whatever "cascade" is chosen before Inborn is applied?

(BTW, is it thread resurrection if it's only 2 1/2 months old? :D )

Inborn, as a cascade, refers to abilitys that are expressions of already present talent being polished into useful form.

So, for Artisan, it's tapping your natural talent for art.

For JOT, it's the realization that your wild imagination can be tamed to finding multiple solutions to a problem. (extra retry)

that kind of stuff, stuff where you always had the knack, and now it's been polished into usability.

Yeah, Aramis, but how do you apply it when a PC gets that for a skil during chargen? Does it come across as an extra skill level in, say JoT? And, if it's "extra", then shouldn't you have a skill level already?

Or, by "expressions of already present talent being polished into useful form", do you mean it's just another way of saying "Cascade" for JoT?

You pick one of (wait a minute, fumbling for book) those listed under Inborn on page 28 of the PM:
Artisan
Carousing
Instruction
Jack-of-all-trades
Leader

One of those goes up 1 level, player's choice. Just like any other cascade group.

The breakdown is on pages 28 and 29 of the Player's manual.
If it is a cascade, pick 1.
If it's an includes you've reached the final skill, and the CT skills it replaces are the includes.
If it is a serves as the other skills use the better of the serves as or the actual level earned; it does not add.

Special note: this is different from TNE, T4, and t5 use of the terms.

So, IOW, it is just a goofy way of saying, "Here is a cascade of skills that don't relate, but we want to put together, anyway."

I can work with that....

They do relate... they're all skills that people often associate with inborn talent (IE, you were born able to do it).

Heh, I can justify a LOT of things under that cascade....

The text in the chapter actually (and correctly) lists it as a cascade, not an includes. The skill list is wrong.

Making Rifleman into Combat Rifleman for army and marines makes sense, likewise with the weapon group skill on mustering out.
Thats a house rule, but not uncommon....
