BCS Round Robin Status report:

5 games are completed.

Ron Gianti has played each of five opponents. He won 4 of his games decisively.

I will now run the 4 remaining games for the player that beat Ron. If he can make a clean sweep, he will be the winner of the BCS tournament!

I don't think this will take long; will try to be more careful and consistent based on what I've learned so far....

This tournament could possibly result in a 2 or even 3 way tie!

Since I used the small craft in my squadron as combatants, I counted their cost in the 1BCr budget.

Thanks, Bob, but this is really directed more at the 10BCr game. With a limit of 4BCr on the flagship, this makes a big difference.

Jeff, do carried smallcraft or non-starships cont in the price of a ship?

For the purposes of the TL 12 10 BCr tournament, NO. (And remember not to apply double-discounts to those carried craft when calculating the net price, if you know what I mean.)

This is an off-the-cuff ruling and not the result of a deep contemplation of the designer's intentions.

As these specifications were swiped from the 1981 listing in Adventure 5 (page 30), the refueling requirment is applied at the sqaudron level.

For those that don't have Adventure 5, here is the details:

Gas Giant Skimming Required: Fully streamlined (hull configurations 1,2, or 6) and partially streamlined (hull configurations 3, 4, or 5) ships must be available to skim gas giants in order to provide fuel for the squadron.

Squadron: No specific requirements must be met by any single ship, but the designer must demonstrate that ships with a total fuel tankage equal to at least 10% of the total fuel tankage of the squadron (including vessels carried on others) are capable of meeting the required refueling parameter.

Okay... let's do this.

Let's keep this tech level so we can reuse/tweak the designs we already have.

The budget is 10 BCr. The limit on the price of your command ship in 4 BCr. The limit on the price of each of the other ships in the squadron is 2 BCr. (Just guessing on this.) So the minimum number of ships is 4 total.

OIT's Sloeppig is the second entry to complete a 4-and-1 record in the round robin. There is one more entry that has a chance of equalling that record, so we may end up with a three-way tie.

I am waiting on responses from participants to games 10-13. There are only two more games that I need to set up after that. We should be done soon.

Once I've called the final game, I will email everyone the notes for games 6-15. (Games 1-5 were worked out on paper.) Everyone will get a chance to speak out about any errors or unfairness. If everything's good, then I will post the tournament after action report shortly after that. Please keep your designs secret until then so as not to spoil the big reveal.

If you have a few 2 BCr Tenders each with lots of battleriders or even fighters, you are within the intentions of that requirement.

The goal is to force players to use fleets instead of a single large mega-cruiser that uses up all of the $$.

Real life has reared its ugly head today. I've got just two more games to start... and I think I'm waiting on word from far-trader who's out of town.

I'd like his input on these last few more-complicated-but-very-interesting situations, but I may end up taking his doctrinal notes and randomly determining what happens based on his info and the personality of his captains....

Hopefully when the kids are in bed I can crunch through some more turns!

I have a ship design for the 10BCr campaign and I have doubts about its viability.

Magnus... I was just about to send you some design advice and/or questions to ponder... but in the interests of being fair (as a *tournament* referee), let me instead sug<<< strongly encourage you to take BillDowns up on his offer so you can see how your design strategies hold up in a real fight.

Non-tournament fights don't take long to play out and it can give you some insights.

Well, if it's a straight 2 BCr then all I got to run up in there is two of the Knight Class (Block 2). My other is a 4 BCr Ship of the Line. *shrugs*

The ship I have concerns about is actually 1.3 BCr. I can throw in a Frigate to bring the price up to 2Bcr

I call it a Destroyer - my 4BCr ship is rated as a CL
