why we love ct

1. The versatile scouts are just as useful, if not more so, as the specialized Navy and Marines.
2. What other game system will give you 30 MCr worth of starship for one lucky die roll?
3. What other game system can elevate you to the powerful nobility with a couple of lucky die rolls.
4. The simplest task resolution basic system “Beat an 8” Everything else is just interpretation and extrapolation.
5. Other as a career, how simple is that?
6. Keith Brothers artwork. You may not love it, but it sets the look of Traveller.
7 Gunboats and Traders
8. Paranoia Press and FASA got their start with Traveller

That's it for now from me

Back on topic, maybe we need to make a "77 Reasons Classic Traveller is the Best Traveller" list.

We can make "Shotguns in Space" the first item.
Full Text descriptions of spacecraft, with a template to follow in The Traveller Book. These read like brochure entries. Beautiful!

Exile, can't seem to find a way to e-mail you on this forum. If you give us a bell on my e-mail address which is: zozer 'at' btinternet.com ('at' meaning @) I can send you all of Andy Slack's WD articles (Including the vehicle combat one) in PDF format - all from Andy's own website.

Come ON, people. A little intelligent thought, please.

#21: T20 won't ever be interesting until after Arnold Swartzenegger finishes T3 - T19
#22: Gurps is what you get when you eat too many onions and drink club soda too fast.
#23 ?

BTW. CT, for me, was Books 1-7 + Striker. We-no-need-no-stinkin-robots. Nothing was ever allowed in my games or my friends games that didn't have personality.

Also, I first started playing traveller at the University of Texas, in Austin, in the late fall of 1977, probably October.

Can anyone beat that?

Today, I still have a mint condition set of books 1-7 and Striker (all first edition).

I just decided to come back into the game and bought the FFE classic books to use them so I would wear out these old collector's items.

If didnot your try to find than hight tech answer to than problen when than low tech one work just as well. KISS (Keep It Simple and Supid) technology is alway best and the same go to game system.

I started playing Traveller in 1982 when I purchased The Traveller Book . I also like the simplistic rules of CT and generally use them in my campaign. I do however use MT rules for character generation due to the better skill numbers. I was always a bit bummed under CT when I rolled a 2 term guy with Carbine-1 Mechanical-1 and Admin-1. Just seemed like a system where young people were nearly worthless and oldsters were the best. Hey! come to think of it that is a highly realistic system!!!

I didn't know how the rules worked until I got a starter set from either 1982 or '83, and by then I had discovered GURPS. As a player, I prefer the CT rules for their simplicity and ease of use (I doubt I'll play GURPS for a while). As a GM I slightly prefer GURPS for the depth of information and better realism of weapons, but if I ever GM I'll use GURPS rules to help generate background and use a somewhat modified CT to play.
