What weapons do police carry?

RL Israeli police are issued various kinds of pistols; they sometimes carry Uzis, M1-carbines or Galil variants (such as Galil MAR or the faulty Magal version which uses the M1's ammo [0.3?] instead of the usual 5.56mm); SWAT-equivalent use mostly M16 variants or the smaller Uzi variants. Civil Guard volunteers use pistols and/or M1s. Israeli cops very rarely use shotguns. Teargas grenade launchers are usually attached to a Galil/M16 rifle; rubber slugs are fired by Galil/M16.

police on high tech worlds. hmmm. Guns. lots and lot of guns, and portable ATGMs suitable for taking down the bad guy's cityblock (not apartment - cityblock). along with battledress...

Battledress would be slightly excessive, let alone would kill/maim many bystanders with ricochets. and Expensive.

My Cops: (TL 10+) a combination of the "Future Soldier" Concept and Judge Dredd. (The comic, not Stallone) Or like Warhammer 40k's Adeptus Arbites. (which seem a lot like Judge Dredd, too)

Medium Armor, Cloth (Combat-ish Armor for SWAT teams, when available)
High Range Comlink
Helmet
Respirator
Hooked up to a Computer Network

1 gun that can:
A. Kill you
B. Stun/Incapacitate You

This gun should be all you need. IE, longarms would be scarce or for SWAT Activities. The Public gets nervous seeing a bunch of guys trotting about with longarms. Plus, the coppers can put the hurt on you easy with no weapons, as they would be trained to fight hand to hand as much as doing paperwork.

Riot Gas Grenades
Lie Detector

Police Vehicles commonly used:
Grav Belt
Grav Cycle
Grav Squadcar
Grav Paddywagon
Grav SWAT-type tank

Around TL 13-15 in some cases (for me at least) live street level cops get replaced by robots, ala THX-1138.

As long as it isn't ED-209.

Actually I can't see Robots as Police Officers. As High Threat response units yes, but not as beat cops. Though the Imperium does have a prejudice against Robots in general and robots with guns in particular, so unless it is a remote controlled gun platform I can't even see that. (Actually, IMHO, a perfectly sane concept to keep guns away from AI, and computer control, logic can be such a bitch.)

Solar Triumvirate cops on most developed "core" worlds have gear similar to what Baron Saarthuran von Gushiddan has described - Mesh or Cloth-equivalent armor, helmet with gas filters and vision enhancers, medium range radio, computer uplink, stun baton (no CT stats, but not too dificult to put togather), autopistol/shotgun/SMG (depending on zone; in some sprawls you'll need some serious firepower to deal with the local gangers), and gas grenades.
SWAT use Combat Armor and ACRs (or the expensive Gauss Rifles for tactical sniping). Normal Triumvirate cops could handle a normal riot (that is, a riot without armed rioters) with some light vehicle support; anything bigger and they'll bring the Army to "restore order".

The Alliance, which is composed mostly of frontier worlds, has planetary militias, which serve as an army reserve, disaster relief forces and peacekeepers; they usually wear flack jackets and are armed with Assault Rifles.

On a high law level look out for the locals, they may joyfully report your actions!
Not at all, knock yourself out ;)

But seriously, this may appear in the real world before too long.

Laser Dazzlers that will knock you stupid, disoriented, nauseated, vomiting, etc. by strobing at a frequency which puts you down (different for dogs, so they are developing a non-human effecting one for mailmen and a composite one as well as the human effecting one) are already out there. Now, I know about it from a friend in SF who got to test them on his squad...
