vector combat - ZS KiAg vs UNS Louis at KhenMuUr

taking up where the previous Vector Movement thread left off, we can begin to add combat rules. the following ruleset is proposed.

all agility and to-hit roll and modifier rules from book 5 hg2 are in effect, with 2 additions to take into account vector movement.

1) for each 1 light second of distance to the target, add a -1 modifier to the to-hit dice roll. round down. e.g. .99 LS = 0 to-hit modifier, 1.00 LS = -1 to-hit modifier.

2) a ship's maneuver capability must be divided each turn between vector movement and agility rating during that turn. e.g. a ship with M6 (and of course the necessary accompanying energy points) may exercise M6 and A0, or M5 and A1, or M4 and A2, or M0 and A6, etc.

damage rules for now are minimized - each ship can take a certain number of hits from the opposing battery, and that's all.

the expansionist terran authority, acting to accelerate the breakup of the ziru sirka, seeks to deliver a treaty proposal to the vilani world of KhenMuUr via the blockade runner UNS Louis. the ziru sirka has nothing to oppose this political action but the lasers of the police cruiser ZS KiAg.

planet KhenMuUr is a terran-sized world. the rings around it represent it's 10d and 100d limits.

ZS KiAg, tech 11, M3, 1 factor 8 beam laser, size A, can take 6 hits. each ring around the KiAg represents 1, 2, and 3 LS distance from the ship's location.

UNS Louis, tech 12, M6, 2 factor 2 pulse lasers, size 4, can take 1 hit. each ring around the Louis represents 1, 2, and 3 LS distance from the ship's location.

the UNS Louis destroyed is a win for the ziru sirka. the UNS Louis remaining inside the 10d limit of KhenMuUr is a victory for the terran authority.

the scenario begins with ZS KiAg in a random location outside of KhenMuUr's 100d with any initial vector the player chooses, and with UNS Louis precipitating out of jump into a random location outside of KhenMuUr's 100d with any initial vector the player chooses. once engagement begins then both ships are free to navigate through all planetary boundaries. territorial space for KhenMuUr is it's 10d - no laser fire may intersect KhenMuUr's 10d at any time.

anyone care to play this through? I've done a preliminary estimate to "balance" the encounter, but I have no idea what will actually happen.
