It was a concern of mine as well, but I figured I would try to describe the difference and see if it was enough of a difference. The way it started to come out was as follows.
The Smart hero was largely as described in the D20 modern book. The Scholar came out much as the academic was described in the T20 book. The difference became the same as the difference between the practical (Smart) and the theoretical (Scholar). This made the Scholar take on some aspects of the Bard (from D&D)
Again, the Charsimatic hero was described as in the D20 modern book. The Socalite is largely the same, the difference is in scope. The charsimatic hero's abilities work on a smaller groups than the socialite. Need someone to get you past the squad of guards, the charasmatic hero to the rescue. Need to quiet the large angry mob, socalite is here to save the day. As I said in the other thread, I was having difficulty describing social interaction mechanics to allow these two to have something to do besides cast down powered charm person spell. </font>[/QUOTE]So, are you saying that you didn't have a problem with overlap between Smart/Scholarly with the Research talent tree?
And if that was the jumping off point for the difference, then you should try using the Charm talent tree for a jumping off for Charasmatic/Socialite.
Remember, just because someone is a socialite doesn't make them necessarily charasmatic in terms of leadership.
The socialite would be better at talents like Soiree--an evening party or social gathering.
This would give a socialite character the abilities to throw a fabulous get together quickly, which could be useful if you needed to create a distraction for an evening while other members of the party can do things without running into those that are invited, or spy on them.
Contacts/Resources--this could be a talent for gathering needed resources quickly in new urban enviros, or have the abilities to gain contacts easily. The higher on their ability to win contacts increases how influential the contact is when added.
Here's another possiblity...
Followers--The ability to make contacts or just everyday people into hangers-on or sychopants. These people would go out of their way to help so that they can say that they know this noble or that movie star.
