The Traveller Art Thread - Discussion

The blue-grey or a neutral grey hull would be fine.

However, to live up to its name somewhat.... I'd like any accents/markings/name to be in another shade of blue (for contrast).... either a bright neon blue, or a darker navy blue. Whatever gives good contrast and easy readability.

In my campaign, the Norwegian Blue is not a standard IISS vessel. While it is owned by the IISS, its mission is more of a Courier... to carry sensitive cargo, info, intelligence, and passengers in and out of border territories. The Blue is typical of the political espionage and "diplomatic missions" that one might expect in the tense areas between the Imperium, Solomani Confederation and Aslan space. Because of that, the Blue does not necessarilly scream "I am an Imperial ship carrying the Imperial colours! Shoot me!"

The view: I really like the side view you have right now. It shows the many features of the ship.

However, if you can "tilt it" just a tad bit so that I can see a little more of the top surface... that would be a great view too. The top surface seems to have lots of surface area for showing hull markings, especially the name of the vessel.

I'll leave any details to you, using your artistic license.

I personally could use it with the Standard Scout Paint job. (If you have time.)

Since I am playing with Bryce, it will import both 3ds and obj. I just thought OBJ was more the standard. I am new to this 3d stuff but learning fast.
And it would probably help to have a few models to see how they go together and help build them myself. I certainly am not in your or Scarecrow's league, but would like to get there some day.

Andrew, my sincere thanks to you for taking the time to make that!

It's a beautifully rendered ship! And my players will be happy to have a "ship of their own". And of course, when I post it to our Terra Incognita campaign site, full credits will be given to you.

well....
I just plugged your Fast Courier into celestia...
I think I'll have to tweak it cause it's not reading the textures
It is large so I shut down alot of the other graphics. It does show up, but just the side textures are visible. Looks like space debree

As for other ships... Anything your heart desires ;) Mr. Scarecrow has done a lovely scout, but maybe another common ship like the beowolf or a X-boat, System D or even another campaign ship for someone always makes gaming more fun ;)
Are all the textures in the zip cause I have to put them in seperate folders in Celestia?

Thanks again and I'll post pics when I get it workin right.

"Are all the textures in the zip"

Everything's there, but the export didn't come out too good, probably because of the quick'n'dirty way I threw it together in the first place.

Andrew,
I do have one gripe on the Fast Courier, after looking at it. Did you relocate the turret(s) to the underside? One turret should be top center of the disk, (Where the pretty indent is.) and the other right in front of the sattelite dish in the back (Scout Exploration version). Especially in the Standard Scout Exploration version the rear turret is Point defense laser, that dish is in the normal field of fire. (Can you get HBO on the dish? Sorry couldn't resist.) Pushing that comms dish (Or is it sensors?) rear to the center of the back section or forward to the middle of the tube shaped middle section would get it out of the field of fire. Personally looking at the layout of the ship, it makes more sense for the Laser Turret to be the forward turret, even with a disk instead of a sphere. It has a better field of fire.

The model imported nicely into BRYCE. Now I have to figure out how to maintain the textures. (Or I have to texture it myself, a good exercise.
)

My own take (for what it's worth) on it is that the indent in the disk top is an empty turret socket which is where it should be from the plan. Or it is the TNE version of turrets where the bulk of the hardware is below the skin and the hatch opens up and out pops the mirror or launch rail.

And as cool graphically as a dish is my general take on ship's electronics is that they are a dispersed array of small receptors and transmitters to eliminate blind spots and mitigate damage. A kind of a compound system. So you can't really see the sensors in most cases.

As to the second turret the plan position hardly fits my definition of a hardpoint. I'd have put it just aft of there if it has to be in that area (right where the dish is
) but my first choice would be in the bottom center of the disk.

Anyway, enough meddling from me :D

Carry on...

It should be obvious to the most casual observer that the so-called “dish” is really a high tech meson weapon so powerful that no other weapons are necessary. ;) :D

The indent is indeed an empty hardpoint, and I completely forgot about the second turret! Putting it underneath makes sense to me (otherwise there's a huge blindspot).
