SOC-9
Former GM of the much alive, much kicking Boston Traveller group has relocated to the far southwestern extremity of the United States. Interested in forming a group meeting monthly in the same room with real tables and chairs.

oh, thought you were talking about chula vista or something.

I'm out in the desert, too far.

make sure you hit all the theme parks - disney land, knott's berry farm, san diego zoo. they're worth it.

AND send photos to your old chums!

Using an MT-ish task system. Milieu is orthodox CT era.
I can do a monthly or every three weeks meeting schedule. Just arrived here, so I'm just trying to gauge general interest at this point.

Irvine off the 5. So not too extreme, but pretty southwest from my frame of reference.
I'm in Anaheim, south of the 5 / 91 interchange, although I work in Irvine.

Welcome to the O.C.!

Nope, not far. Drop a line.

I am not familiar with MT rules, having only CT and GT available. The hobby stores near where I live don't have Traveller products on the shelves, but they claim to be willing and able to order copies anytime. No help when you need (for instance) "Shadows/Annic Nova" by Saturday's game!

Hello, folks!
I'm in La Habra, just North of Anaheim and not too far from Irvine (30-45 min. drive).

I'm really rusty, but would really like to play Traveller again.

Search through the bargain bins at Brookhurst Hobbies. There are a usually few Traveller books there. I picked up the hardback of 'Milleu 0' for $5. Don't bother ordering anything from them though, purchase online from one of the big retailers.

Oh yeah, I'm in south Tustin, so depending on where in Irvine, maybe as little as 5 minutes away.

Tewhill:

How many potential players does that make? I count:

Baphomet69 / La Habra
Keklas Rekobah / Anaheim
Marvo / Tustin
Tewhill / Irvine

Are you ready to roll? Do you have pre-gens or will the first session involve rolling up new characters?

The rest of you:

I like Brookhurst Hobbies, but pawing through the bargain bins can take a while, especially after some grubby-handed wonk has already left his fingerprints all over everything.

The Book Baron (between Ball and Cerritos on Magnolia in Anaheim) has been a more fruitful resource, albeit in GURPS materials. Not much GDW stuff there.

I have the Classic Traveller CD now, and suddenly I understand all those inside references I've been hearing for the last two decades.

Question: In your opinions, which CT adventure would be "best" to use as an intro to a group of church kids (mid-teens to early twenties)? I was thinking "Shadows," for its dungeon-crawl, the type C atmosphere, and a near lack of combat encounters.

Thanx!

I had not noticed that my hands were grubby.

For beginners I have usually run Research Station Gamma. Much for the same reasons as you mention - unusual setting and a lack of combat.

Not sure if the players being church kids makes any difference? If so what?

I never said that your hands were grubby, per se... ;)

RSG ... not a bad pick. Could be a good second adventure, especially if they're set in the same sector. I'll have to check.

My concern lies in the realm of trying to balance an interesting first game experience against the "Thou Shalt Not Have Fun" mentality of some of the kids' parents.

"OHMIGAWD! You're playing D&D!!!"

"No ma'am, this is Traveller."

"DICE! I SEE DICE! IT's D&D!!!"

Deja vu all over again. :(

I can understand that all too well. Wouldn't touch it/them with a bargepole myself. No matter what you do, if they are seen as having more fun playing Traveller than reading the Bible then it's blasphemy. And you're the cause.

The life of a heretic has so little to offer, that if they only spell my name right, I've accomplished a Great Thing.

Anyone used to hang out at Galactic Archives, the comic/games store on Orangethorpe between Anaheim Hills and Yorba Linda?
Mac, the owner of the store, still runs various games once a week out of his home.

Well this is embarrassing; all this chatter and I'm completely not paying attention. Is there still interest?
