I'm in Anaheim, south of the 5 / 91 interchange, although I work in Irvine.Originally posted by tewhill:
Irvine off the 5. So not too extreme, but pretty southwest from my frame of reference.
Search through the bargain bins at Brookhurst Hobbies. There are a usually few Traveller books there. I picked up the hardback of 'Milleu 0' for $5. Don't bother ordering anything from them though, purchase online from one of the big retailers.Originally posted by Heretic Keklas Rekobah:
Nope, not far. Drop a line.
I am not familiar with MT rules, having only CT and GT available. The hobby stores near where I live don't have Traveller products on the shelves, but they claim to be willing and able to order copies anytime. No help when you need (for instance) "Shadows/Annic Nova" by Saturday's game!
I had not noticed that my hands were grubby.Originally posted by Heretic Keklas Rekobah:
I like Brookhurst Hobbies, but pawing through the bargain bins can take a while, especially after some grubby-handed wonk has already left his fingerprints all over everything.
For beginners I have usually run Research Station Gamma. Much for the same reasons as you mention - unusual setting and a lack of combat.
Question: In your opinions, which CT adventure would be "best" to use as an intro to a group of church kids (mid-teens to early twenties)? I was thinking "Shadows," for its dungeon-crawl, the type C atmosphere, and a near lack of combat encounters.
Thanx!
I can understand that all too well. Wouldn't touch it/them with a bargepole myself. No matter what you do, if they are seen as having more fun playing Traveller than reading the Bible then it's blasphemy. And you're the cause.Originally posted by Heretic Keklas Rekobah:
My concern lies in the realm of trying to balance an interesting first game experience against the "Thou Shalt Not Have Fun" mentality of some of the kids' parents.
"OHMIGAWD! You're playing D&D!!!"
"No ma'am, this is Traveller."
"DICE! I SEE DICE! IT's D&D!!!"
Deja vu all over again.
The life of a heretic has so little to offer, that if they only spell my name right, I've accomplished a Great Thing.Originally posted by Marvo:
