Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.
It has probably been mentioned already, but a “week” really isn’t 7 days wandering the port since there are LOTS of things that happen between EXIT JUMPSPACE and ENTER JUMPSPACE.
Some worlds are inside the Jump Shadow of their sun and may need a day or two to travel to and from the Jump Point (that would be 1 day travel each direction on most worlds and 2 days travel each way on some worlds … so there goes 2 to 4 of those 7 days).
Some worlds require ships to unload in orbit and take a shuttle to the planet surface. That means time in the High Port, clearing customs, arranging shipment of freight, booking a shuttle flight (if you intend to actually set foot on the planet). That could take half a day to a full day in each direction for people and cargo on a high Law Level/Government world … (there goes 1 to 2 of those 7 days)
You have now arrived on the surface of the planet anywhere from 1.5 to 3 days after exiting JUMPSPACE and with anywhere from 1.5 to 3 days travel time needed to return to the Jump Point. That means 3 to 6 days of the “week” are accounted for and your adventure/rest is only really filling in the 1 to 4 remaining days to maintain an average “1 week” schedule.
Hand waving away all the different possibilities to just “Exit jump and instantly arrive on the planet” is what makes the 1 week seem “broken” or odd. It can be a far more variable period of time (from one world to the next).
