Pay No Attention To That Man...

Sounds interesting.

I remember there being a Challenge article about a sentient robot masquerading as a merchant.

Have you tried TNE at all? As others have said, you'd probably find a lot in it to like.

We never played that far. Our discussions though ranged widely. Two examples I best recall:

Oblivion. It was a wave front of a tear in space type of thing (some ultimate weapon gone a little too ultimate) and jumping past the wave front (the Black Curtain) landed you out of existance, end of game.

Mech Virus Sphere. Beyond the line all was mechanized virus constructs or being assimilated and changed to the same (long before The Borg made it cool ;) )
It was a TNE plot device for GM's to use to intregue players into either sending probes in or finding information from those who went their.

It also made a great place to bring new forms of technology out of.

Yeah but I don't recall that being made clear at the time. What I remember then, and even until recently, was a lot of chat about what are we as referees supposed to put there/do with it. Followed by a lot of silence from the powers that be since by then they were closing doors and shutting off lights.

Have you read the TNE supplement Vampire Fleets? Your questions are answered there
Unfortunately no, I couldn't get past the system for TNE. I really liked the idea behind it, tho. I've turned my focus instead on the GURPS: Traveller Alterniverse and set MTU at year 1111 about a month after the 5FW. No Rebellion, no Virus, but something that you could call Traveller: Apocalypse where an Evil Baron gets ahold of the Darrian Star Trigger and... well, I think you get the idea. I posted Baron Vel on here a while ago.

Anyways, I'll have to go looking for that book,

Speaking of Darrians,

The star trigger that sent them into the dark night was a fluke. They werent able to recreate it...so they just use it as a threat to keep the Zhodani at bey. There's only 5 Darrian's who of course hold this info...thats why they where psy helmets to keep Zhodani spies from figuring out their bluff and running rough shod over there Confederation.

(little off topic... I know)
