Pay No Attention To That Man...

Being a hardcore CT fan the setting didn't have a lot of interest for me, but I was wondering...

For those of you who took the setting to its logical conclusion, what did you decide was...

BEHIND THE BLACK CURTAIN???

We never played that far. Our discussions though ranged widely. Two examples I best recall:

Oblivion. It was a wave front of a tear in space type of thing (some ultimate weapon gone a little too ultimate) and jumping past the wave front (the Black Curtain) landed you out of existance, end of game.

Mech Virus Sphere. Beyond the line all was mechanized virus constructs or being assimilated and changed to the same (long before The Borg made it cool ;) )

I was going to say that but it could have had it's beginnings in MT

Only if you count Survival margin in the MT line rather than the TNE line where it belongs...

Now, let me see if I got this straight - Virus infects ships, right? What about robots? And what would happen if a strain of Virus wanted to open diplomatic relations?

I don't think it's either to be honest - it was always apparent to me that it was the 'transition' book. It wasn't MT and it wasn't TNE either because it was set mostly in the time between the two periods.
