Newbie, T4 Questions

Excuse me if these answers can be found in the T4 book, I only have the ebook version of this document, and it was lazily created from text without the inclusion of any useful bookmarks.

RE: Damage
When a person takes damage, do you first determine which attribute is affected? Is this per die/per point? Does the player decide?

How is the damage applied?
Please use example: If you are hit for 3d
Please use example: If you are hit for 3d, but you are wearing flexible armor, and the damage is reduced to 2d+1

RE: Difficulty and DM
When do you decide to use 2d as oppose to 3d or 4d, and when you decide to give the character a +/- 1 DM? Any good guidelines out there? I'm use to making one adjustment, not two, and I'm not clear when to do which.

depends on whether this is the first hit or not.
1st hit: roll 1d, and find the stat
1-2: Str
3-4: Dex
5-6: End
all the first hit's damage goes here.

if not first hit, each die is randomized on same table; 0'ed stats are ignored.

EG1: Joe Normal (777777) is hit for 3D. GM rols loc: 2. THat's dex. Damage roll is 3+4+3=10. Joe is down to 707777, and is thus unconsicous. He gets hit again. Rolls damage dice 4+3+4; Joe gets to pick where each die goes, he choses 7 to Str, and 4 to End, winding up not quite dead: 003777.

EG2: Joe is wearing body armor. Joe is 777777. Joe gets hit for 3d, while uninjured. rolls the dice: 2D+1. Rolls 3+3, totals out to 7. Rolls 1d for location 5: End. Joe 0's out his end. Nighty Night! Cid Killer then comes up and shoots him AGAIN, but isn't close enough for a coup-de-gras. So, Joe's player gets to pick where the rolled 4 and 4 are put, as well as the 1, Joe, to help his healing time, puts the 4 and the 1 into Str, and the other 4 into Dex.

Diffs and DM's. DM's are for things the character has, like tools, secondary skills, etc. Difficulty levels are for things exterior, like weather, inherent difficulty of the task, and damage done to the object being acted upon. IMO, of course.

RE: Maximum Damage Dice
Regardless of weapon (sans Shotguns), the damage dice are normally capped at 3d6.

Suppose I'm shooting a high powered rifle, with a damage dice of 5d. My target is wearing 2 pts of body armor. This becomes 3d+2? Is this why weapons are rated above 3d?

Thanks.

If the armour is flexible then the damage becomes 3d+2, but the plus 2 is lost because the damage is over 3d still (at least that's how I've always read it ;) )
If the armour is rigid the damage is reduced to 3d, you don't get the 1 point for each die the armour removes with rigid armour.

And yes, this is why weapons are rated above 3d
