Getting back to MT, the better your dice roll, the higher your damage.
The penetration is a problem so you'd have to opt for a pinpoint shot if you wanted to do a lot of damage.

Sigg, In TNE, using D6's for damage as written I had a Vargr SURVIVE a direct hit from an FGMP.

Later on, using D10's instead, he was put out of action for a bit by a PGMP12...

T4 was even LESS deadly... on the first shot. (That second one, tho, that was the killer...)

T20 is actually about as deadly as MT....

GT is more deadly (assuming strict rules adherence in all cases) than TNE, less so than CT for smaller weapons, more so for bigger ones (Crew served and up).

Striker and CT were well ballanced to each other, but different time scales and abstraction. (End results of combats comparable, tho...)

It makes a degree of sense, I suppose, that the RPG would grow somewhat less deadly. It's certainly a bummer when the character you've been lovingly playing for a year suddenly gets cut down by a stray bullet.

This one area that I could see improvement in T20. Combat has to become much deadlier and swiftly resolved.

You can get them at drivethrurpg, as well, in electronic format.
The main problem with electronic books is that you have to either use them on-screen only (a matter of preference, not to mention computer availability for some of us, I for example have access to a computer about 10 hours a day - most of which I can't dedicated to RPGing - in the weekdays and roud the clock only in weekends) or print them, which adds to the cost. For example, I can print for an expensive 0.2 New Israeli Shekels (circa 0.045 US$) per page, which could increase price by 25%-50%.

Then, in Azhanti High Lightning, you need an 8 just to hit something (IIRC). That evens the playing field a bit, since in Snapshot you only needed an 7 to hit Cloth armor with an assault rifle, and only a 1 with a (much less easily acquired, i.e. more likely to be in the hands of your enemy) Gauss Rifle. Or was there a mechanic in AHL that decreased the to hit number based on autofire?
By the way, how is Striker in this regard?

Having never laid eyes on a copy of MT, can anyone convince me of its merits as opposed to the LBBs? What does MT have that CT doesn't?

In other words, should I be trying to get my hands on a copy?
I'm a CT canon-monger as well. And I was guilty of ignoring MT for a long time. But recently, I decided that MT material is actually USEFUL add-ons for my CT campaigns.

Also remember that about 95% of MegaTraveller material is easily backwards-compatible with Classic Traveller.

Conclusion: I stick to a CT universe, but I view the MT material as "One gigantic must-have Supplement" for my CT campaigns. ;)
