I'm a CT canon-monger as well. And I was guilty of ignoring MT for a long time. But recently, I decided that MT material is actually USEFUL add-ons for my CT campaigns.

Also remember that about 95% of MegaTraveller material is easily backwards-compatible with Classic Traveller.

Conclusion: I stick to a CT universe, but I view the MT material as "One gigantic must-have Supplement" for my CT campaigns. ;)

The main problem with electronic books is that you have to either use them on-screen only (a matter of preference, not to mention computer availability for some of us, I for example have access to a computer about 10 hours a day - most of which I can't dedicated to RPGing - in the weekdays and roud the clock only in weekends) or print them, which adds to the cost. For example, I can print for an expensive 0.2 New Israeli Shekels (circa 0.045 US$) per page, which could increase price by 25%-50%.
Ouch. I'm pretty much a geek, so computer-based is OK by me. Of course, I have printed out various bits and pieces on several occasions....
(BTW, you might want to see if you can print in "booklet" form - if your eyesight is good and your printer can handle it. It prints each page to a half-sheet - so two pages to a side - double-sided, then you can fold in half when you are done. It's like having a LBB....... )

I have done this with every pdf I have purchased, and I am very pleased with the result.

I even went out and bought a proper stapler to handle thick booklets.

I would recommend that process to anyone who has a 600 dpi printer or better. (with 300 dpi, you loose quality on most of the scanned pdfs since they are optimised for that resolution).

best regards

What I want is to decide which version of Traveller to buy next once I'll have available money. My options are:

1) MT, of which I already have Hard Times and the Rebellion Sourcebook second- or third-hand; I need the Player's Handbook (only if I buy Hard-Copy; I have it from the DTRPG free download), the Referee's Handbook (in either form), the Imperial Encyclopedia (in either form), and COACC (sp; in either form). Can a hard copy be found online in a reasonable price (including shipping to Israel)? Or would it be cheaper to buy the PDF online and print (0.045 US$-equivalent per page)? Or would it be useful to use it mostly from a computer screen and print the nescery (sp?) parts (how many pages would be the absolutely required minimum to print to run a session?)

2) T20; Can it be ordered online in hard-copy? How much will it cost (including shipment to Israel)? Does it includes vehicle design/combat rules? Can it be bought in electronic PDF form? Would it be cheaper in that form (including the 0.045 US$-equivalent cost per page for printing)?

Since you already have the player's book and Hard Times, I'd recommend the MT CD ROM. The Referee's guide in it is taken from the later printing and has most of the errata included.
The pdf versions from Drivethru appear to be first printing (judging from the demo pages), and it would cost you a lot more to get everything that is on the CD.

If you go the ebay route then don't buy unless the ref's handbook is second or third printing, same for the Imperial Encyclopedia.

T20 is a great version of the Traveller game for role playing, but be warned that its ship design system is slightly different to High Guard, and large ship combat is broken.
It includes full vehicle design rules, and combat scales easily between personal-vehicle-ship.

All IMHO, of course ;)

Hi Sigg

The MT CD-Rom gets really expensive for those of us not in the USA. We get levied an additional $22.00 USD for shipping, and then get "shipping and handling" added onto that, which appears to be based on the value of the shipment *including* the additional shipping.

I can get all of the MT stuff I actually want for less than $64.10 US and that's not counting the duty and taxes once it crosses the border (I'm in Canada, so that's a minimum of another 7% AKA $4.50 USD or so)

you can look here:
http://www.farfuture.net/ffe/n9000.htm
add stuff to your cart and then try checking out. I hit DriveThroughRPG instead, and picked up "Hard Times" and "The Rebellion Sourcebook". Then discovered that most of the info I care about was already in TNE and FF&S, although I'd still reccomend "Hard Times"

If Mr. 2-4601 would care to PM me on this board, I have a copy of the Imperial Encyclopedia in "Worn" condition that sees pretty much no use: drop me an address (work?) where you would like it mailed.

I live in the Uk, and p&p was included in the purchase price - $7 IIRC

Who charges you the extra money?

If it's a US/Canada tariff it seems more than a bit unfair?
