MegaTraveller character generation

Dear Folks -

Incorrect, David. MT rules ARE available to the public on DTRPG and from FFE on the CD.

Sorry, Wil, I'll make it clearer: not available in the public domain, and thus possibly on someone's website.

I didn't mean they were out of print, I just meant that everyone needs to buy their own copy before they can dissect and argue over the rules. ;)

MT Character Generation...

With the exception of two careers (Journalist and Entertainer), all T4 careers appear in MT. MT's basic generation codifies and clarifies the CT careers (including the mess from Spinward Marches Campaign).

This is taking the thread in a different direction but could you explain what the mess was in the Spinward Marches Campaign? I've never seen it.

And also did anyone cover Journalist and Entertainer careers for MT? Perhaps as Hyphen's police career?

Spinward Marches Campaign reprints the careers from S4-Citizens of the Imperium, except it messes up the tables.

One day I need to clean up the MT rules I use and post them to the web. I use a modified MT chargen/skill system for all my Traveller games, and I add the Journalist from TD and created an Entertainer career.

Hmm... another side project :)

My problem is, what I use is my own edited set of the Player's Manual chapters (Characters and Skills). I'll have to see what I can cull to make the document acceptable to FFE.

And remember to add the attribution for the Journalist, as I actually have permission to use DGP stuff.

Perhaps if I did it the way JG did their logbook pages for CT...

Well... I don't want to make life difficult for you. So any time now would be good!

In general terms, cause it's interesting, to me, how did you modify your version of MT? I mean don't feel like it's required to go into the nuts and bolts but I'm interested in how people think, what they thought was important and how they played.

I mean it's not like I've played any version of Traveller in 20 years (almost exactly). Collected yes. I find the game interesting even when I can't find players or time to do it.

So how other people play(ed) is interesting

Understand that what I've done basically is completely replace the Characters chapter... At first, all I was doing was adding in the errata...

But as I started comparing notes, I added back in a few words here and there from CT, and reworked the checklist slightly (to add in stuff from the Advanced Generation, and follow the CT wording closer).

My first big change was the noble ranks table -- I dropped in the one from TNE, because it gives the proper address and honorifics for addressing those of such lofty station.

After the section on Homeworlds and Default Skills, I added the Brownie Points from Advanced Generation.

And I renamed the Pirate career "Privateers", with the idea that they are individual crewmembers of an interplanetary or interstellar vessel who makes a living attacking, hijacking, or plundering foreign commerce. So, privateers are honorable merchants serving the Imperium. Pirates are scum.

Next big addition is after the Aging Crisis section. Here's where I drop in the explanation of contacts from TNE, modified to be more MT appropriate (because the categories from TNE are based on TNE careers, which are bizarre and wrong, obviously).

Small changes to College to give BA or BS, added Graduate School from Advanced Generation, added Law School from T4(?) to Pre-Enlistment Options.

Added Purple Hearts and other Decorations, and Poltroonery, from Advanced Generation, as Special Rules for the 5 military careers (Army, Flyers, Marines, Navy, and Sailors).

To the "material objects" received in Mustering Out, added the Journalist's Recorder (from Early Adventures). Then I came to Letter of Marquee...

I really wanted to make this a real "reward". So here's my version of Letter of Marquee:

Letter of Marquee: A government may issue a letter of marquee authorizing a privateer to raid the shipping of its enemies, receiving quasiofficial status. A letter of marquee allows a privateer limited access to allied naval bases in a fashion similar to what a scout ship has to scout bases; acceptance of the letter is at the discretion of the base commander. Privateers mustering out with a letter of marquee can be assumed to have no criminal past and are publicly regarded as traders and merchants.

I'll have to find some way to post my Entertainer career. Journalists are from Early Adventures (DGP).

Don, the term is Letter of Marque, not Marquee....

A marquee is the thing on the theater telling you what's playing...

HAHAHA... I misspelled it. It's spelled correctly in the doc I pasted from.

That's because I'm tired and silly today. :)

...snip!...

I found an Entertainer career chargen on the T5 page. I can easily work backward from there to MT.
