Marine Deployment

In addition to the Planetary and/or Garrison Armies described here, I'm thinking that IMTU the Solar Triumvirate government will deploy a small Marine garrison on most planets (i.e. anything with POP 3+, that is more than 1,000 residents) as constant-readines, TL12 "shock-troops" at the direct command of the Planetary Governor. They will also serve as elite starport security.

So, here's my Marine garrison scheme idea:

code:

POP Force
0 None
1 Bodyguard
2 Bodyguard
3 Squad
4 Platoon
5 Company
6 Battalion
7 Regiment
8 Division
9 Corps
A Army
[/QUOTE]For Starport-B, double these forces (i.e. a Squad becomes 2 Squads); for Starport-A triple them.

I think you've got a good idea here - there are a couple of changes I would make IMTU.

First, a small thing - I would make 9 be a corps and A be an army, rather than several or many divisions. This is just a small organizational change I would utilize.

Second, I would make a clear distinction between Imperial Marines and other garrison troops. IMTU the army handles most garrison duties rather than the IM, who primarily provide true garrisons only in depots and naval bases - small detachments are posted to Imperial missions (the term IMTU for embassy), but starport security is handled by the local SPA in most cases.

For me, I would make a separate table for Imperial Marines and another for Imperial and Colonial Army garrisons to reflect these differences - and with your inspiration, I think I'll do just that! Thanks for idea, Employee 2-4601.

Done.

There is no Imperium IMTU (it isn't the OTU) - just the Solar Triumvirate. And there is an Army - I just haven't decided on its deployment strengths yet - see the linked thread in my original post.

IMTU, There's usually a small garrison at naval bases, but not under the command of the planetary governor; of course, IMTU, the Imperial nobles frequently have very little power onworld, being restricted with treaties, laws and contracts.

So, the marines would be available for security on-base or for direct imperial action, but would only rarely take action outside the base. Also, the bulk of the security would be filled with mercs or naval personel. The exception is obviously Marine barracks that some naval bases house; here there are easily thousands of marines in each barracks, and frequently hundreds of barracks at one base. Often such bases take up an entire small world.

Understood - I was thinking out-loud on how I might incorporate your interesting concept IMTU.

IMTU the typical IM spends 50% of his career deployed with IN battlegroups, the remainder as shore duty.

The majority of their shore duty is in garrison at major IM bases. Special duty is available for NCO's and officers, dependent on seniority; special duty can be bodyguard for Imperial officials, liaison to the IA or planetary security forces, disaster or humanitarian relief worker, student at specialty training schools, instructor at same schools, embassy or Imperial security guard, recruiter, honor guard, or even detached duty working with military contractors or other Imperial agencies (military fellows or assistants).

The USMC and Royal Marines are asked to fill a variety of roles when not in a combat zone; Google for it.

IMTU, Huscarles, often seconded from the Marines, fill the same role. (IMTU, Nobles are the starport admins/cheif execs.)
