Love and marriage between other races

Humans and Vargr are from the same biological order - (Terran) Mamalia.
This means they are biologically MUCH more compatible than the Kusyuu-mamalia Aslan, or the I-Don't-Know-how-to-fake-it warmblooded, furred, viviviparious non-mammal order the K'kree are in, or the class Glea-Xenoasteroidia of the Hivers.

It's possible in my universe .
The most common being
Female Human/Male Reticulan .
Male Human/Female Dropa .
And Human/Fauo are also quite common
But with other species not so much .
And my universe has no uplift species because the Second Union (the Old Empire) outlawed such practices . And most worlds in my universe still keep that law .

I have to imagine that anytime there is a number of humans interacting with sentient non humans the chances of an emotional or physical relationship. since attraction is not always physical, or based on sex.

Casual sexual encounters might be more common. At least in areas where there are large numbers of humans and non-humans interacting. It depends on the species involved and their views on recreational intercourse.

More serious log term relationships would require that the two species be close enough in mindset, and interests, to allow them to spend a considerable amount of time together to begin with.
Now being confined for week, or two, at a time on a rather small ship would be a good start point for a relationship. Swapping stories, bad jokes, and banter, to pass the time might lead to at least one or two shipboard romances.

Love, Sex, and T5 Inter-sophont!

Attraction and Love are based a lot on Biochemistry and that does mean that it is much more likely to fall in love within your own species. Humaniti with Humaniti, Aslan with Aslan etc. But that very much does not mean inter-sophont love and lust do not happen. Is love and Sex related? Yes and no, the concepts can be divorced from each other as we all know.

Love V Sex… the following are multiple reasons that love or sex or both might occur.
1) Mutual Respect becomes love, I would view this as best case – it may be platonic, it may be intensely sexual but is because of mutual respect and desire.
2) Scheme or dominance behaviour (see Hiver manipulation, Vargr Dominance games, Positional sex as he is the boss Aslan) This would be the most common version of Cross species sexual games
3) Deviation from normal behaviours. – attracted to other species
a. Mental?
b. Biological – mutation
4) Adventurism
5) Culture Manipulation
6) Religious reasoning

Can we agree with total effective geneering at Tl13 that the concept of a fixed gender for Humaniti is basically over as Transgenderism would be trivial and complete?

I strongly suspect that since this thread stated in 2011 – Marc read it and addressed it somewhat (along with Don and Robert) in T5 as per the following

Physical Act of Sex: Major considerations…..

1) Right gender mix Pg. 541 you mean we need 6! people here? Pg. 552 relationships are complicated….
2) Right life stage Pg.542 adults only and at the sentient stage preferably Pg. 553
3) Right size Pg. 543 mouse + hippo…. Enough said
4) Senses…. Pg. 554
5) Manipulators … you want to place your what where???? Pg. 557
6) Structure Pg. 555
7) Do they require symbionts Pg.558 – another creature that needs to be loved  relationships are complicated!
8) biochemistry (my addition) acidic, basic, and or poisonous secretions might be an issue

On to offspring T5 Specific
Pg. 115 Cross Species Interactions
Pg. 116 Interspecies Fertility – would suggest Vargr and Humaniti might have children and create a chimera as the genetic profile is similar
Pg.116 does suggest that cross-sophont infections from sexual activity would be rare to non-existent…
