JTAS Contest 25, The Ultimate, Modern Luxury Liner

Evening Savage,

You're welcome, I didn't have much else to do at the time and since I hosted 1 contest I have a small idea of some details. :D Of course I also lost the contest I won, since I was the only entry ;) Now the contest I hosted had 8 entries, or was it 6, which was a record, very short lived.

Lexx,
I didn't receive the file you attempted to send. I suggest you send me a text as you'd like it appear and not depend on me to convert it to text the way you'd like it. I did receive your picture.

Savage,

a question if I may. I've never gotten into the JTAS page, but I know it's a SJG product, so does it cover other genre's of traveller besides GT? I ask because you seem to be accepting designs for other game systems, so I guess that even tho JTAS is now a SJG product they support other companies versions of traveller.

BTW< how many versions of traveller are there now from how many different companies? I mean, there's GT, t20 and one from imperium games, right?

Damn, traveller sure is popular....

Hello Lexx,

JTAS is written generically enough that you can use the material in the 6 versions of Traveller.

Classic Traveller (CT) - GDW
MegaTraveller (MT) - GDW
Traveller The New ERA (TNE) -GDW
Marc Miller's Traveller (T4) - Imperium Games
GURPS: Traveller (G:T or GT) - SJG
Traveller 20 (T20) - QLI

There are several companies that wrote supplements for Traveller. Here is a link to a site that has a very comperhensive list of Traveller material with who published the material:

Illustrated Traveller Bibliography

Yep, Traveller has been kicking around since the late 1970's with the 3 Little Black Books (LBBs). Which can be purchased from Far Future Enterprise either directly (hardcopy or ecopy pdf) or from YFGS. Hope the above helps. Oh yes, one side note GDW offered a game titled Traveller 2300 AD, later shortened to 2300 AD that was, IIRC, a follow up to Twilight 2000 and not part of the Classic Traveller universe or OTU for short.

It should be interesting so see what happens over the course of the next year. With many version available in ebook reprints (GDW products only) some of the older version may have a revival.

You can still get paper books off of ebay, sometimes this is better than adobe ebooks but it should force down those enormous ebay prices.
Good for buyers, bad for those that just bought.

Lexx,
I just joined JTAS in January. I've liked access to the old materials since it really works for all versions of traveller. Its well written and not
expensive. Also, you can enter articles and apply the profits to the cost of the subscription and other products.

Ok, savage thanks. I was wondering what versions of traveller are in print/supported now, is megatraveller and TNE still supported?

I heard a lot about traveller 2300 and think someone's doing a new version. One thing I loved about it, even tho I never got into it, was the kafer. I mean, an alien species that is normally mostly non sentient but reacts to stress by becoming more intelligent to solve the problem, that's an interesting concept...

Yes. The Kafers are wonderful Lexx. I had the luck of playtesting a little T2300. Behind enemy lines with Kafers in full pursuit is not a promising situation. Almost want to do it again. The weakness was a near complete lack of deckplans.
While Traveller is more about the ships (in my
opinion) T2300 was more about the worlds and cultures. The starmaps is great too.

None are supported except Gurps and T20. Marc Miller is releasing the reprints of CT and the rest will be ebooks. But he doesn't produce new products or errata for any at this time.

In a round-about way you could say TNE is still supported as the QLI "Bearer's of the Flame 1248 Sourcebook" is a continuation of the TNE era ( milieu? ). It's supposed to be void of rules specific references so is it really a T20 book?
Also the stuff for T20 is supposed to be compatible with CT so you could say CT is still supported too.

Ofcourse the players/fans will continue to "support" their favourite version. Usually the version they "played" the most of, as near as I can tell.

Badbru,

True Hunter, MJD and everyone writing documents are very good at indirectly supporting T20 products. Everyone with a Traveller website and on this board is also supporting the Traveller.

However, 1248 is not out yet...and Far Futures(GDW) is not openly Traveller.

That would be us... (points to the 2320AD link at the top of every page) ;)

So, when do we find out who 'won', sav? BTW, not that it matters but is there some sort of prize, like a subscription to JTAS or something?

Hello Lexx,

As a regular designer and voter to the JTAS Design contests I can answer your question. Also, as mentioned I had a winning design and hosted contest 10. First, the contests are fan supported affairs hosted by SJG's JTAS board.

On average there is a week of voting at the end of which the contest's host announces the winner. Shortly after the host of Contest 24 announced the winner I posted the results on this board, which Sav will probably do. In addition the host officially announces who designed the entries. The prize for winning a JTAS design contest is hosting the next contest.

Hope the above helps.
