SOC-14 1K
Offices of Kaasu Intergalactic Star Shipyards:
Hello, everyone welcome to JTAS contest 25. With the holiday coming I’ll allow 3 weeks for your entries ending the design portion of this effort on midnight June 15th, 2004.

Send entries or special questions to me, Savage. I will deploy them to the JTAS site for voting on June 16th, 2004.

Attached is the RFP from the Duchy of Kaasu. I believe she's covered everything but, please, ask me any questions you might have.

Thank you,

Scott

Request for Architect Proposal: The Ultimate, Modern Luxury Liner
Offices of the Duchy of Kaasu
Date: 105-1112
Location: Kaasu, Corridor (1209)
Construction Facilities: Kaasu Intergalatic Star Shipyards

Overview
Corridor sector has long been in the shadow of its great neighbors. It is our intent to finance the construction of the “Grand Traveller” class of ultimate luxury liners as another chapter in the long tradition of Corridor’s actions supporting the Imperium. These vessels will be deployed with the intent of providing the best in high
passage accommodation within the Imperium on various high visibility routes. We now are opening the proposal stage of our project to bids
and designs. We have rewarded an experienced Corridor designer, Scott White, as the official project manager for this endeavor.

Background
The shipyards of Corridor produce many popular general and specialty designs. A know vessel of this type can bring additional business into
the Corridor shipyards, as well as improving the general image of Corridor. The duchy has been continuing efforts to expand beyond their
military constructions.

Specifications
· The RFP is open to any starship size equal or greater than 600dt but less than 150,000dt
· Minimum High Passengers 50
· Capable of star travel: Minimum Jump3
· Accommodations for Royal Family members, and High Passengers
· Lesser accommodations for servants and crew
· Entries must discuss the adventure a guest might experience
· Entries must discuss the accommodation onboard a Grand Traveller(GT) class vessel.
· Specifications may be provided in any common Design Format (GT, CT(B2orHG), T20, MT or TNE)
· No armament, but may have defenses. The safety of the passengers is paramount
· The ship is intended to have escorts, as necessary
· It is possible that some passengers will have their personal yachts escort the GT class liner. This is fine (if they can keep up) we are
interested in a vessel that is the finest in the Imperium and draws an impressive client list.

Proposed Primary Star Routes for the Initial 2 Liners
· Kaasu->Vland-> Capital->Antares->Vland->Kaasu
· Kaasu->Deneb->Glisten->Regina->Kaasu

We anxiously await your designs,

Lady Anna Vokova Kaasu-Rehman
Duchess of Kaasu,
Heir and First of Duke Rehman of Corridor,
Member of the Imperium Moot,
Doctor of Engineering Robotics and CompSci

Everyone,
Give it a go!! Lady Anna has confided that she's very opened minded hence the rfp and desire for a popular vote.
If you need some initial ideas I might suggest the King Richard, or Judges Guilds Coreship, or movies The 5th Element. 21st century water examples include "The World" and "QE2".

Voting Public,
Look for the ship that you'd want to sail on for many months. It should be bound with constant activity, safety, and adventure.

I knew that was gonna start a territorial fued when I saw it ;) but hey I'm on Scott's side this time Tom. It is his privilege as the current king of the hill :D

Looks like a good one Scott.

Lo Dan "far-trader" Burns,

No feuds here, I just had to post something in response. Besides, this time I can relax and see if I can complete an entry for the contest. Oh yeah, traitor, after all the support I've given you in the past you go and support someone else ;)

Savage,

Do you have/use any ship design software? SJG has some good free stuff on their net that's easy to use, and I just downed some and used it to make a close approximation of that ship I tried sending you a version of earlier. Is it possible to send you a design in a software format?

BTW, I recommend the GTS pogram to anyone here who wants to make an official GT ship as it's fast and easy and customizable too.

Howdy Lexx,

The short answer is Yes, you can use a computer design aid and the formatting that the particular aid prints out in. I use Tom Bont's GURPS Modular Vehicle (GMV), which was I believe the next generation of GTS, design aid and came out before the officail release of GURPS Vehicle Builder (GVB). Hopefully, one of these days I'll figure out how to use GVB, which has many of the features, of both GTS and GMV. I have also used Michael Joseph's GURPS Vehicle Designer (GVD). I've played with Andrew Moffatt-Vallance's High Guard Shipyard, as well as, Hugh Fosters' design aid for MegaTraveller titled Ships III.

Thanks Tom.

Lexx,
I didn't receive the file you attempted to send. I suggest you send me a text as you'd like it appear and not depend on me to convert it to text the way you'd like it. I did receive your picture.

Regards,
Scott

We have received our first full complete entry from Onno Meyers. Onno sent in a GT entry. Keep them coming.

Evening Lexx,

I believe I can field this one for Savage.

That would be the Journal of the Travellers' Aid Society site operated by Steve Jackson Games. Its a (small fee) pay site with much to offer a Traveller even if its largely GURPS oriented. The contest originates from and until recently has been pretty exclusively on the Discussion board there, under the Starship/Vehicle Design forum.

The link will take you to the login page where you can get the details, subscribe or look at a sample issue of JTAS.

You're right Savage. When the Baron hosted recently he set up a page on his website to host the images and encouraged the same. If you wanted you could go that way, or Lexx could upload it to the appropriate Yahoo Traveller Group (is there a GT one?). Maybe the Deckplans Group would be ok.

It does of course eliminate the pretense of anonymity but like you I don't see the need. Others see it differently and its kind of a tradition I guess. Maybe they're afraid of favoritism or prejudice. As long as the votes are collected and tallied anonymously I'm happy.

Now, to put a hex on my project and insure it is not done in time I'll say I'm working on a nice one for T20, and I don't care who knows its mine
