Hmm... IMTU, IRIS is the "Visible Bad A Team" (multi-pun intended), but thee is an even more munchkin, more hidden, "Imperial Special Force", with 100 agents per sector, the best anagathics money can buy, psionics training, and every one carries an Imperial Warrant and an Immunity Grant, both signed by the emperor IN PERSON. Only one draw back... the ISF has only one way out: A body bag.
Kind of like what Mantis Team does in the Sten Series...
The problem comes, when i run non-munchkined games... I don't allow advanced gen. I use MT almost exclusively.
See, in a basic career, in term 1, it is possible to get:
1 First Term Bonus
1 Term Skill
1 Commision/Position skill
1 promotion skill
1 special duty skill
3 bonus skills (1 for Comm/Pos, one for promo, one for SD)
3 rank and service skills
=====
11 total levels
In later terms, basic gen results in
1 term skill
1 promotion skill
1 SD skill
2 bonus skills
1 Rank skill
=====
maximum 6 skills
In theory, it's possible to get 14 PER TERM in Advanced gen. MT narrowed the gap a huge amount.
Now, the truth is that the average MT character gets about 3 skills per term in Basic Gen, and about 4.5 per term with advanced gen, plus a lot of additional detail (much of which I think is improbable due to the short nature of the assignments...).
IRIS, being just a little bit hyped, still averages about 4.5 per term, but with a much more, shall we say, Combat And Capture skillset...
Then again, the ISF of MTU is 1 skill per term... They often keep you frozen when ot training, killing, or on the 2 month vacation between ops. I have used it for Fast Forward type adventures, too... Boy were they annoyed when they were thawed to look for Dulinor...
SORAG was a little over the top, too...
