Iconic location on Terra for the Solomani?

What is the iconic location on Terra for the Solomani? A symbol they'll want to lay their hands on, maybe take an iconic picture of their soldiers near it if and when the retake the Motherworld from the Imperial Invaders? A sacred place more sacred than others, worthy to shed blood for more than anything else on Mother Terra?

Possibly a picture from orbit of the Solomani fleet in orbit around "the blue green marble" that is Terra.

Well, it was considered incredibly tacky for the first few hundred years of its existence, not to mention a desecration of the natural beauty of the area, but after a millenium or two the bust of Hiroshi I in Yosemite Valley in the North American continent has become recognized as one of the wonders of the world. Nearly seven million tourists visit each year.

Occasionally, radical preservationists talk about restoring "Half Dome" but that movement seems unlikely to gain any traction.

What is the symbol meant to represent? Just something that says "Terra"? Something that simply means "Solomani"? Or is it "The Triumph of Man" or more like "Solomani Ascendant"?

A natural wonder would be difficult to pick, given that there's quite a few on Earth and when you multiply that by all the planets settled by humaniti it becomes a bit difficult to grade them.

A constructed wonder would also be difficult: should it be something from after man's ascent to the heavens, to the starts, from the 1I, the time of the birth of the Solomani Confederation, or from an empire of antiquity?

What sort of psyops have been run by the Solomani about Terra? What symbols have they used over the years to represent the original humaniti?

According to the Travellers' Digest adventure serial, both the Giza pyramids and the Sphinx have been preserved - and those would be utterly iconic "location shots" for any Solomani.

The site of the Battle of the Spanish Pocket, the last major engagement of the Siege of Terra, would be popular with Solomani sympathizers. According to the Mongoose Solomani book, during this fighting the entire Confederation 124th Lift Infantry Corps was trapped and destroyed.

[The 124th was recruited] almost entirely from Solomani Party youth organisations in Veracruz, Regulus and New Holland subsectors [and] they were among the last off-world troops to reinforce the mother planet before the Imperial advance cut off Sol subsector. Surrounded in the brutal Spanish Pocket, less than half of them ever returned alive to Alpha Crucis, and only after years in Imperial prison camps.
Soli propaganda would have utterly heroicized the sacrifice of this unit in numerous, maudlin works -- think "Charge of the Light Brigade" tooled by entire public relations departments for maximum psycho-social impact. Some accounts would even go so far as to credit the 124th for single-handedly fighting so valiantly that the Imperium halted its advance into the Solomani sphere.

Even if the Imperials kept the battlefield cordoned off, I'm sure Solomani believers would make every attempt get as close to this hallowed ground as possible, and leave mementos -- ribbons, flowers, Solomani crosses -- piled up at the checkpoint.

Probably something we haven't built yet.

In the future, there'd probably be something that'd represent a united humanity striking out for the stars. Like a United Nations spaceport or something.

It sounds tacky to us.

But once, the Pyramids were new as well.

By the time of the Solomani Rim war, even something built in the year 2200CE would be ancient.

The UN Building for the historical icon. Possibly the old Governmental Building to symbolise Free Terra, but only if the Imperium installed the Collaborator Government somewhere else.

The FermiLab building was used in the Galaxy Rangers cartoon, if I remember right. Just not as the location of FermiLab. Maybe use it as a location that helped discover Jump Drive?

They were used on the cover of one of the Travellers' Digests if I recall correctly.

That's a great idea, particularly given the (possible) role of the building as a forum for the beginning of the Confederation

Keep in mind, we're talking circa 5600AD... 3600 years more... almost doubling the age of the pyramids, and more than 50% more than recorded history. Anything in the way of modern buildings are unlikely to have survived intact, save for certain concrete structures which are intentionally preserved.

or Stone, where working on molecular bonding to make high grade artificial stone for stuff like chopping boards, bench-tops and dress work on buildings, next 20 years and we may be able to make Structural Stone.

so perhaps the "Assembly of Worlds" building (or whatever they call it) that replaces the UN building and the "Old Earth Union Parliament" building, if the 3I installed their administration in either I can see vision of the liberators frog marching out the 3I governor and staff being popular, the Solamani may install a provisional government in it for a bit wile they build new digs then turning the place in to a museum.

If the UN Building exists in 5600AD then obviously it has been preserved, repaired, restored, perhaps even rebuild.

Bourbon Street in New Orleans during Mardi Gras ... some things never change, they just get rebuilt as often as necessary. ;)

There's other spots too.

TD 13 also mentioned the inca ruins were still intact. Dragon mag has an article on Luna and that notes the appollo 11 landing site as a major tourist spot. Man's first landing spot on another world would be a major historical site for the solomani

Other possible locations - lab that developed jump drive, any battle site from the interstallar wars - the vilani did attack the terran system. The 3 starports on terra during the rim war - they would have been the locations of major battles. How about the locations the first jump ships left from and possible the same for the launch site for the 1st STL sleeper ship.
