Evaluation of Kinunir colonial cruiser on the MONGOOSE High Guard Update 2022

The larger issue would be if the Kinunir class is actually relevant in terms of overall ship design.

I wouldn't waste a complete platoon of Marines on it.

From my perspective the platoon IS the primary system the ship is oriented to.

Especially those jump capsules.

If you add the barracks/staterooms, this is around 100 tons like a primary bay weapon.

The key system that makes it a special ship is a black globe in such a small ship. That allows for long distance approach in total stealth/cloak and unmasking for minimal interval firepower and insertion.

Pirate base busting. VIP/starport/embassy rescue/evacuation. Raid on slavers/evil research/megacorps shenanigans/rebel scum.

A really high end player sized tool, whether run as Imperial or on the receiving/being rescued end.

One problem is extraction of the Marines if the mission requires more than one squad dirtside. That is where having more than one pinnace would be handy. I'd much prefer a 6G pinnace than that APC getting out of a gravity well on a hostile planet after a raid.

So you're thinking in terms of deliver all/extract all in a single launch/recovery cycle, rather than needing to make "repeat trips" in order to move everyone.

There is something to be said for that approach to the Marine deployment options, but enabling it would require more tonnage fraction in order to make it happen. So at that point it becomes a question of whether that option is "affordable" rather than being one that is "obviously better" (or words to that effect).

The Conestoga class light assault starship was a type of spacecraft manufactured by Lunnar-Welsun Industries[1] and primarily used by the United States Colonial Marine Corps. Of 36 Conestogas built, 27 remained in service as of 2179.[2] They were eventually superseded by the newer Bougainville-class attack transports.[2]

Their primary purpose, aside from transporting personnel across the vast distances of space, was to act as carriers for rapid deployment of UD-4 "Cheyenne" Dropships, as well as many other Marine vehicles and all associated equipment. Conestoga class ships were well armored and heavily armed, including a complement of nuclear weapons.[3]

I'd say needs more volume, for additional equipment and stores, if the idea is to catapult an elite military force into dangerous situations.

As regards thirty four pick up, twelve tonnes for battle dressed Marines, eleven tonnes for undressed Marines.

As the mongoose states, it is an ill-fated model, discontinued after a production run of only 20. Some ship-design libraries include the Kinunir as an example of what not to do in this regard.

I thought about constructing the Kinunir class according to MT rules, but spending a lot of effort on a failed project is not constructive. So, I decided to build a modified version of the Kinunir class.

With reference to everyone's opinions, I came up with the following concept.

The modified Kinunir is to be constructed upon the request of the Marine Corps, with the purpose of serving as a platform for special forces or reconnaissance units to carry out surprise attacks. It will accommodate one Marine Corps platoon of 30 people. The all Marines will be trained in boarding actions, meteoric assault, and mechanised deployment.

The modified Kinneil will carry, besides the Marines, support combat drones, supplies, and decoys, a total of 50 0.5dt atmospheric reentry capsules. It will also be equipped with two launch tubes. Battle dresses are normally stored in the capsules, and onboard training is conducted using VR.

The ship will carry one 40dt pinnace. The pinnace is equipped with folding jump seats for 30 people in the cargo hold to pick up the deployed Marines. Additionally, a larger side door will be installed. The pinnace can also be used as a mothership for boading action combat.

When deploying Marines as a mechanised unit, the pinnace is unloaded, and three 10dt APCs are carried.

Thanks all.

I assume the three 10-dton APCs are Grav APCs (G/Carrier-APCs). In that case the only minor modification to the text I would make would be:

"When deploying Marines as a Lift Unit, the pinnace is unloaded, and three 10dt Grav APCs are carried".

The term "mechanized" normally implies a tracked-vehicle.

Mechanized means high proportion of infantry fighting vehicles, in proportion to armoured fighting vehicles.

Tracked, or otherwise.

Air cavalry could be equipped with air/rafts.
