Chargen question: Wound allocation and disability discharge

Hi all,

I am adapting Patron Encounter Querion/Salvager (p. 19) from Mongoose's Spinward Encounters into a short adventure that I plan to run on the monthly RPG gathering in Amsterdam, probably next month.

For this purpose I am running through chargen a few times to see if interesting characters come up to use as pre-gens and NPCs (if the dice are fickle I will settle for selecting instead of rolling), and I ran into two minor questions on the military careers:

1. Wound allocation if the Risk roll fails: do I allocate them as normal combat hits, or do I have to allocate them to the Controlling Characteristic for that Term?

2. Disability discharge: if after recovery I have a wound of 3 or more hits left, I get a disability discharge. Do I continue to roll for Promotion and Skills as normal before discharging my character?

On a side note, I am planning on writing up some Sword World equipment and at least one starship based on stuff from the Mongoose Sword Worlds book in T5 stats to equip my NPCs. Any interest on the final stats when I am done? If yes, do I post them in this forum?

Have you looked at GT Sword Worlds? Hans Rancke and his co-writers did some really nice work IMNSHO, and you might want to build off of that for your T5 stuff, rather than re-inventing it all from scratch.

Ah no I haven't. I have never been much of a GURPS fan, so I missed their Traveller work as well.

I do have most of the MgT stuff, and I like their take on the Sword Worlds, so I was going to build off that, but I will see if I can get my hands on a copy of GT Sword Worlds as well.

Mongoose Sword Worlds has... issues.

It's a bad copy of GT Sword Worlds, except the author didn't understand how the Imperial Calendar works, and so he dropped an 1116 Sword Worlds into Mongoose's 1105 universe. So you've got a book that thinks the Fifth Frontier War is over in a universe where it hasn't started yet.

I would second the recommendation to find the GT book.

Yes to the controlling characteristic.

Yes i do

Answers.

1. Yep, it hits the controlling characteristic.

2. I (till I hear otherwise anyway) rule, no. Once you take the Disability Wound, you are discharged and do not roll anything else other than your x2 Muster Out benefits. "Thanks for your service, now get out."
