CC2/CC3 Traveller Symbols

Well, ther the City Designer (though that not really SF) and Symbol Set 3 - Modern, but regarding the last I am not sure about the content.

I'll ask a friend.
He's a "Master-Mapper"

To be terribly honest, IMO Cosmo is poorly done. The deck plan symbols are scaled for 10' grids. The Map symbol sets make nifty maps, but they sure are NOT "traveller standard", even though they fit the Sector and Subsector standards.

I was disappointed I spent the money upon it; I won't repeat the mistake for cc3.

Agreed, Aramis.

I think the only thing they are good for is taking the pre-created peices (like staterooms) and get some of the components out. It's also helpful that you can resize the objects, but that works on some objects better than others.

I've got CC2, and from what I remember.. it's a bit of a trick to make symbols, but it can be done.

Now if a bunch of us made some to share...

Hi !

Agreed, that mapping symbols are not really Traveller standard, but isn't the Traveller mapping standard quite simple and maybe boring.
If you need Traveller standard, then a set of perhaps 10 to 15 symbols is perhaps enough to do the job.
Bergs sharing idea is perhaps perfect.
We could start to make a list of symbols we would need and see what we can do....

My art skills stink, but I would give it a shot to make some.

Symbols I would like to see:
Trepidia Tank
Astrin APC
Air/raft
ATV
G-Carrier
Imperial Troops
Zho Troops
More General buildings
Starships (for use as counters or/and place on a map)

I am currently working on a 10meter sqare grid template for outdoors combat. I plan to make a hex version of the same template.

I can try to make symbols of the Tanks mentioned above.

Lee Whipple did some nice SciFi symbols. They're in the Map and Catalog library on the ProFantasy site. There's a couple of tanks and hover/grav vehicles. A few ships and shuttles as well.

My Traveller symbol set is for ship deckplans and includes 20 symbols some in color, some grey, most in B/W. Since I don't have cosmographer I don't know how they stack up to symbol sets bundled in that add-on (probably not as good).

The second section of my article "How to draw Traveller deckplans with CC2" available here:
http://www.freelancetraveller.com/features/shipyard/cc2deckplans.html
details a method of creating the basic eight starship symbols. Once you've done those making more shouldn't be much more difficult.

Making CC2 symbols is a snap.... making decent ones is a good bit harder.

My traveller ones are pretty minimalist... basically just doing the symbols used in GDW deckplans.

Let's see, what do we absolutely NEED for traveller deck plans?

Iris Valve in Wall
Iris Valve in Floor
Iris Valve in Ceiling
Iris Valve in Floor/Ceiling
Manual Hatch in Wall
Manual Hatch in Floor
Manual Hatch in Ceiling
Manual Hatch in Floor/Ceiling
Pocket Door in Wall
Pocket Door in Floor
Pocket Door in Ceiling
Pocket Door in Floor/Ceiling
Maintenance Hatch in Wall
Maintenance Hatch in Floor
Maintenance Hatch in Ceiling
Maintenance Hatch in Floor/Ceiling
Bunk
Chair
Low Berth

All should be scalable, colorable, and have a cutout boundary so that they can be placed on almost anything and show up.

Actually with the Cosmographer add-on the only ones you are missing are the Maintenance hatches, and that may be because I didn't look hard enough. The rest are included. (The problem is that, according to ProFantasy, Cosmographer is going to be one of the last CC2 add ons to be converted to CC3. :( ) Further the wall hatches are smart so that they snap to your wall.

You can say they are based on 10' but the only things where that really matters are the premade rooms. The rest of the symbols are the right size no matter if you are using feet or meters. After all a chair, desk, console or even door is still going to be the same size whether you measure it in inches or centimeters.

BTL, if you like the excrement in Cosmo, fine. I don't. Their valves and hatches do not look good. The chairs and couches are about the only things I found useable; those did have to be scaled down, since at 100% they appeared some 4m wide....

Cosmographer was a waste of money...

Perhaps a taste thing with CG.
IMHO there are many useful symbols, templates and drawing aids.

Anyway, the things you might really need for Traveller deckplans are just a few.
I`m still fighting a bit with those varicolor and smart symbols. They don't excactly do, what I want them to do
