Brilliant Lances-- yeah, buddy!

I'll second the 1248 stuff off of the TNE2 disk, like most of the disks it is packed with stuff and a great bargain. My T5 playtest "Spinward Marches: A Broken Land" is based off of Daryen/Mike West's "Spinward States" book, as well as my "1323: Beyond the Frontier" campaign is using 1248 as history, so that I often say that everything is the same as it was, but it is different now.

I personally like all the iterations of traveller, and 1105 is still a cool era (I am player in a campaign set there), it is just after 30 years playing there I wanted something a bit newer. I have also thought of using 1248's maps, great fun in the ruins of the old Imperium, and the Machii Class scout cruiser from the scout ships book is great for example.

BI

Dave's earlier posts have shown that there was a plot outlined of sorts, best I can figure it out goes something like this:

guilded lilly leads to the RC gaining a fully functioning ship construction facility

sandman gives the RC a tame virus to use

the empress wave grants psionics to the Regency

Regency TL16 base is a match for the Black Imperium.

RC and Regency don't get along to start with.

Black Imperium begins to expand and RC/Regency have to go to extreme lengths to win.

Star Vikings commit their atrocity in order to win.

Defeat of the Black Imperium, RC reorganises, still friction with the Regency - no Fourth Imperium (technically if Avery is still alive the Third Imperium is still there).

Where do i start:
I have not read the two Guilded Lilly followups but a single or two TL16 starbases are not enough. The Imperium had hundreds of TL15 bases and could not stop the slaughter. Remember Vland! Which should've been written better as a stalemate. I have a TL16 base IMTU and I had to beef up TL16 accomplishments to make it more effective.

At best they should undermine Virus' Rimward sector scouts like Lilly.
There is no reason for BI to advance to reclaim the Imperium.

You should check out the TNE 1248 setting books. They are on one of the TNE discs from FFE. Pretty much rules non-specific, and cover all that and more...the 4th Imperium, the Regency Imperium, the Gods of Thunder, the Black Imperium, the fate of the Star Vikings and sooooo much more.

I use them as the base for my own MTU game. MUCH good stuff!

The disc is worth it just for the 1248 books alone.

TNE material is great I enjoyed the 1248 read but 1248 goes off the deep-end in my view. The storyline is over and above. I did my own IMTU which i wrote out a couple weeks after getting 1248. Virus is too effective compared to the original infection.

Emm, I have them ;)

The two Guilded Lilly follow ups are not the originally intended story arc.

Those TL15 bases all fell to virus - which has now evolved as living things have a tendency to do.
Remember Vland!
I remember it - flattened by Virus ;)

This is one reason I would like the full originally intended story outlined.

I get the feeling the originally planned story would have been a lot less grand opera and a lot more gritty.

I understand that GL was a single module (which I own) and someone intended a followup. Did the followup get produced?
IMTU 1248 is filled with "stories" it's the fear stories in bars and around space ports. :file_21:
Yes Vland was pounded which is what would happen to RC with the present scheme. IMTU the ancient ship acted earlier leaving a scared but not obliterated world. Gritty is good but the super Virus, monster fleet, perfect at all things...not following the true intent.

From recollection Gannon(perhaps several people?), and i went to Loren about the same time, with the machine-race idea. Of course, it was a common scifi theme. (I'm trying to remember what Loren said 20-30 years ago when we discussed it) What you saw in print isn't what was suggested but i can understand the misunderstanding too many chefs perhaps(?). And it keeps getting worst. In those days i volunteered as a tester and did a t2k module.

It could be fixed. I really should do a "virus redux". Remember, also Virus is born of a sentient race.
