The laboratories, on the other hand ...

Would you care to do some deckplans for this ship for the competition? The comp closes on 31st Jan, so you have plenty of time.

this has got to be broken somehow. the crew is in excess of 579 billion?
it appears so too many trailing zeros...

although with a civilian population of
2.4 trillion 579 billion would be a drop
in the bucket i think...

say do you hav a deck plan for this?

<nods to ravs and sid6.7 in the crowd>...

579 billion unemployed comics on this ship and these two come along looking for work

deck plans........

lets see, 120km diameter, 3m decks so.....

roughly 40,000 decks.

that will be fun

on the bright side, nothing can enter jump until 14,400,000 km away from this beast.
errr... does its own gravity well prevent jump operations for itself?

maybe i should name it Reason?

At least nothing smaller than itself, at least the way I use the rule.

Nope, not in my understanding of it. Gravity only affects a starship jump if it is outside the ship, and (imtu at least) bigger than the ship.

I mean - 120 KM diameter ship travelling at 3,500 kph??? That's one whale of a sonic boom! - This thing's a WMD everytime you enter an atmospehere. ;)

someone check me on this please:
hull armor thickness-
sphere @ 60000 m radius = 45,238,938,053 m^2 surface area
AR 17 armor tonnage is 12,063,708,000,000 dTons volume
which is 24,127,416,000,000 map squares at 1.5m x 1.5m x 3m
that means 45,238,938,053 m^2 = 20,106,194,690
1.5m x 1.5m map squares, yes? (divide by 2.25)

at an armor volume of 1200 dtons per 1.5m^2 square, (total armor map squares / (# of 1.5 squares of sphere surface)

Armor thickness would be 3600 meters (armor volume * 3 meters)

i am almost certain i made a mistake somewhere, but i cant figure out any other way to determine the thickness of the walls of essentially a spherical tank.
maybe i am making it harder than it is?

>EDIT
ok, simply dividing the total armor tonnage by the surface area gives me 267 tons per sq meter
at 13.5 m^3 per ton i get 3600 again
<end EDIT

Steve B

just because you CAN does not mean you SHOULD :D

besides, what better way to reduce the surface of an otherwise infested world for colonization?
36 orbits at max speed and min altitude, dodge the mountains and voila! one fresh new planet ripe for exploitation!

Wow. This thing is nearly as big as the Death Star (160km).

BTW: If some uber-gearhead actually does draft this beast, please include armor shielding for any exhaust ports... especially ones that lead directly to the reactor core.

Ahh - that takes all the fun out of it!

So, 15.7 quadrillion MEGAcredits to build it? (a.k.a. 15.7 sextillion credits, aka 1.57e18 credits. I think.)

I think the cost just to get the million or so architects to draw up the initial blueprints is probably about a planetary budget's worth... ;)

And then there's the cost of building the dry dock to build the thing in the first place...

Who needs a drydock? This is the type of craft you build in a remote TL2 system where it orbits a large moon. All you need is to hire a Zhodanie Noble as the lead architect/ship builder.

</font>[/QUOTE]Sonic boom? I would be more concered with what planets it knocks out of orbit.

not quite big enough to knock a planetout of orbit, unless it collides at high speed maybe, but it is armed enough to lower it to TL1 after a while.
