Best Science Fiction Theme?

read an article that indicated whatever was happening when you were 12 is your definition of the best of pop culture. I was 14 when Superman came out and I think that is the best theme (technically comic book but he is from another planet)

though a lot of the ones listed here are really good, the theme from Superman can still make the hairs of my arms stand up.

Gee, that's too bad -- I don't recall reading much science fiction when I was 12. Star Wars hit I was 14-15. I certainly knew about Star Trek though, having bought the blueprints and, I think, "World of Star Trek" book (which was about the show, pretty much). I didn't really start reading SF until senior year in high school.

High school is where a lot of culture gets imprinted on you, both on what you do personally, and what your friends and peers find interesting, or absorbing.

Part of that is a combination of trying to fit in, and trying to differentiate yourself.

That's where authors like Rand and Tolkien appear to make the largest impact.

Okay, it's not really Bebop's theme, but I can't think about Spike, Jet, and friends without hearing this in my head.
It's good music... Bebop is nigh-perfect in its music...
And on a related note, when people ask me, "What's Traveller like?" I show them this.
Yeah, it's
For me, tho', the extended version of Firefly's theme...

That is the best fit of theme to show for me, and it's so close to how I envisage the ideal Traveller, Firefly, or Alien space trucker campaign. Makes me want to break out any of a dozen games, honestly. Those include Alien, Firefly, CT, MT, T:2300AD, Spacemaster, Navigator (SM pseudoclone), Worlds Beyond, WEG/PIG's Shatterzone, WEG/Nocturnal's D6 Space, Star Hero, Savage Worlds with Terran Trade Authority: The Proxima War, the Morrigan Press Terran Trade Authority RPG. Maybe also Better Games' Independents of the S&R group.

Space Trucker as a setting conceit is just so popular a backdrop...
