Payload (p. 347)

Room for six high passengers, at 5 tons per passenger, takes 30 tons. Twenty low berths are also installed. There is enough space left over for an 80 ton cargo hold. The passenger space works out to be:

6 Passenger Staterooms, 12t, MCr 0.6
2 Shared Freshers, 1t, MCr 1
Clinic, 2t, MCr 1
Passenger Common Area, 15t, no cost
20 Low Berths, 10t, MCr 2

Code:
A-BS11 (Beowulf-class Free Trader) TL 10

Volume	Component MCr	Notes
(200)	Hull B, SL 14
-	Plate structure -	AV 10
-	Landing Skids -	Flat surfaces
10	Jump Drive A 10	Jump-1
20	Jump Fuel -	1 parsec
2	Maneuver A 4	1G accel
4	Power Plant A 4	1 month = 2t fuel
2	P-Plant Fuel -	1 month
1	Fuel Scoops 0.1	200t/hr
1	Fuel Intakes 0.1	40t/hr
-	Default Sensors -
1	Life Support 1	10 people/1 month
1	Luxury LS 1	Fancy stuff
8	Bridge 0.6	Spacious Ctl x 2, Op x 2
2	Model/2bis 7.5
6	Engineering 0.3	Spacious Op x 3
1	Steward's Console	0.05	Workstation
1	Medic's Console 0.05	Workstation
8	4 x Std Staterooms	0.4
1	2 x Shared Freshers	1
10	Crew Common area	-
12	6 x Pass Staterooms	0.6
1	2 x Shared Freshers	1
2	Clinic 1
15	Pass. Common area	-
10	20 x Low Berths 2
81	Cargo Hold -

NOTE For passengers, that's 30 tons for only MCr 2.6 -- still close to Classic Traveller standards. Accommodations for 6 passengers in CT would run 24 tons and would cost MCr 3. If I were in a hurry, I could use the Classic Traveller standard measurement, noting that the volume is cramped, or (for a bit more space) 5 tons living space per person at MCr 0.5 per person.

I'm missing something?

2 common freshers, 2t, MCr 2 (Crew)
2 common freshers, 1t, MCr 1 (Passengers)

Was this correct or was one example or the other in error?

Also, by the example, low passage berths are "free tonnage"?

If, by the example, they are "free tonnage", what then is the maximum number allowed?

The Common Freshers are 1t/MCr1 each, while the Shared Freshers are half that.

I think we are all muddling our way through this.

Thank you for taking the time to work the process through in stages.:)

I found an error... the crew should have two Shared Freshers, not Common Freshers. That saves 1 ton, which I can shift to cargo.

Here's a slight reworking of the Beowulf.

* omit the default components
* change the computer to a Model/1
* group all consoles into a "bridge" (even tho some of them may be remote)
* add a couple of consoles

Swapping out the computer dropped the price significantly, and helps recover two unallocated tons for mounting gear on hardpoints later.
