CT Only: A couple of ship designs I banged up using a program of my own devising

yannir

SOC-3
I've got two python programs for book 5 ship design covering small craft and ships 1000 tons and under that I've just put the finishing touches on and this is the results a merchant cruiser and it's small craft.

Code:
Goliath AC - A6223E2 - 030000 - 12001 - 0 MCr923.654099 1000.0 Tons
                    Batteries Bearing 10 34 6
                            Batteries 10 34 6
Crew=28. Passengers=4. Low Berths=0. ELB=0. Cargo=1.95. Fuel=230.0. EP=30.0. Agility=2. TL=11
Craft is streamlined. Equipped with pulse lasers. Ship has backup Jump Drive 1. Craft has
backup Maneuver Drive 2. Craft has backup Power Plant 2. With collapsable tanks stowed add
227.7 tons to cargo. Drop tanks holding 200.0 tons cost MCr 0.2. With drop tanks attached
Jump is reduced to 1 and Maneuver is reduced to 1. Craft has fuel scoops and purifier. 1
auxiliary bridge. Backup computer model 2fib (B). Ship carries a 20 ton launch (David), an
ATV, and an air/raft.

Code:
David AB - 0602721 - 030000 - 10001 - 0 MCr26.35 20.0 Tons
Crew=2. Passengers=0. Low Berths=0. ELB=8. Cargo=1.4. Fuel=1.4. EP=1.4. Agility=2. TL=11
Craft is streamlined and is equipped with pulse lasers.

What do you think of the ship? And is there enough interest in the programs and the planned third to cover ships over 1000 tons to try to find hosting for the files?

Sure, publish it!

You can probably publish it here in the File Library?

Code:
Goliath AC - A6223E2 - 030000 - 12001 - 0 MCr923.654099 1000.0 Tons

                            Batteries 10 34 6
You can save a lot of space and money with LBB2 drives, as allowed by LBB5.

You can fill the three turrets without lasers with two missiles racks each, for a total of 9 missile racks.

Something like this:

Book 2 drives are hard to implement so I didn't. Perhaps for version 1.1.
You can fill the three turrets without lasers with two missiles racks each, for a total of 9 missile racks.

My reading of the spirit of the rules of high guard each turret is a single battery and there being no advantage in the high guard rules to having two missiles in a battery over one and even if there were having batteries of the same type with different codes would make a mockery of the Universal Ship Profile. Doable if you are using Book 2 combat rules though.

Though not doing something just because it makes a game artifact invalid is maybe a bit cheezy.

There is always something...

They would not have different codes, that is definitely not allowed.

Normally a turret is the minimum battery, but mixed turrets have special rules:
LBB5, p29:
Batteries: Ships with more than one weapon mount of a type may group them into batteries. Ships with more than ten mounts of the same type must group them into batteries. A battery may be as few as one turret, or as many as ten, but all batteries of the same type of weapon must have the same weapon code (USP factor). Each bay weapon is automatically a battery. The spinal mount of a ship (if it has one) is a single battery. On ships of 1000 tons and under, mixed turrets (weapons of different types in the same turret) are allowed; in such cases, each weapon is a battery.
A turret with a sandcaster and two missile racks are three weapons, hence three batteries.

I'll be damned. I've been reading that line wrong for decades. That surely makes things different. Gonna need to redo my weapons code.

So, a single turret needs three gunners, plus an entire gunnery command section.
Joke aside, no.

Mixed turrets are allowed in ships of 1000 Dt or less (LBB5, p29).
Ships of 1000 Dt or less use LBB2 crew rules, hence one gunner per turret (LBB5, p32).

The CT rules were written by wargamers, they were careful about loopholes...
